However Strange any Riteing [WRITING] to the act [ACCOUNT] this time may Appear I am Constraind thereto from a Report of R R Leaving hear with some of his Friends that is in a way Insinuating that he R R Venterd Manatter & Finally shall Receive the Benefit of Sd. [SAID] Venter Altho thou Received his Voyage of [ME?] Now the Case Stands (with me They (without a Different Explanation from the) that is to say thou shipt [SHIPPED] the Boy to Go with [FRIDRICK?] with Prince Gardner & myself & we went Down & informed the Capt. [CAPTAIN] together with thyself & Indian sometime after wher R R was in Goal thou met me by Prince Gardner & informd the hardship Rice Labourd under in Goal & then informed that Altho thou had Left orders with us for oy [WORD CROSSED OUT] Rice to supplyd [SUPPLIED] the Boy with Cloths it was on thy Act. [ACCOUNT] which you had settled & that whe the ship Arrivd Desird [DESIRED] I would Take Charge of the Voyage for the as the Boy was Intirely [ENTIRELY] Clear of Rice

& that I had to Remember it when the Ship Arrived I told the I should Indevour [ENDEAVOUR] to Attend to it, when the ship Arriv'd [ARRIVED] Rice paid for the boy's Voyage Declaring the Venter was his & that thou & he had agreed thereto but before the Voyage was Ready to be D_ a Man Appeared in thy Behalf & told Several of the owners that thou Expected Sd. [SAID] Voyage, for the Indian & Venter of Sd. [SAID] Indian on Sd. [SAID] Voyage was thine [CLEUR?] of Rice. And that thou had settled with Rice for the Supply * the Indian had in your Act. [ACCOUNT] you had Together Some months Before. I then took the Matter in Consideration & Told Rice I could Not D_. him the Voyage & informed him as Above said he Rice Said the Voyage was his & he would have it & thou would always Declare it & further he could have an order from the to me for the same I told him when that was Product. I would Pay him the Voyage he then said he was Bound of & would Bring thy order but when Returnd he Productt [PRODUCT] no order & sd. [SAID] thou would be on in a few Days but in the meanwhile was Verry [VERY] Pressing for to have the Voyage I put him of with telling him that however the Voyage Belongd to them I would wish to Pay thy Letter of 6th 8 mo. [MONTH] 1796 Same to hand I was [ASENT?] but when Come Home I observd the Contents which Agreed With former Information that the Indian was thy Indented servant & that thou Expected me to Pay the Voyage to thy order I accondingly informd Rice with using words that I don't care to Repeat at this time when thou came here & Demanded the Boys Voyage, & informaed [INFORMED] the what had Paft [PAST?] with Rice & well Remember thou Desird [DESIRED] I would go with the to Rice & be satisfyd that he would Never make any Demand for thou New that he would Never make that he Rice would have nothing to say Tending that way as he had no Demand for the Voyage Neighther would he Intimate any such thing to they face as he had no more to do with the Voyage than an

[THER?] stranger for his support to the Boy was Long Before Settled by the[E] & of it I was any ways Uneasy thou could & would Bring any Writing from Rice to the Same Purpose I Told the as Not being any Interested of mine would with an order from Rice which would cut the Matter Short & Clear me from any Dispute that may Arise thou then Desird [DESIRED] me to go with them & see for myself that what thou Urg'd [URGED] was the Truth I Told the I was Satisfyd [SATISFIED] & Believed such owner of Ship was, then when thou Brot [BROUGHT] the order from Rice the still Desird [DESIRED] me to Go with the & Talk with him if I wasnt intirely [ENTIRELY] Satisfyd [SATISFIED] I Reply'd [REPLIED] I was fully Satisfyed [SATISFIED] the had said & Done anough [ENOUGH?] (and on my Part I am still Satisfyd [SATISFIED]) but after the was gone it was Told that he had made a Proft the Voyage was his & Paid to his order I then for the first Time was Sorry that I Requested an order from Price to Pay the what Aparently was thy Due without it Now 1 Day Before he Left here he Requested to see my Book so as to Get of what the Boy's Voyage Amounted to as his Voyage Belong to him & thow would never Dispute it & had Prior to this Insinuated the same to the Belife [BELIEF] of some of his friends. Notwithstanding what we as owners Could say -- Now in Justice to thyself I Desire thou would Send me a True Statement of the Case from Under thy hand so that I may Proclaim in thy Favour what I think (without some Mistake) is justly Due.
