Nantucket 3rd 5 mo 1796 Esteemed Friend Elisha Sigourney We rote [WROTE] the several letters since 25th 3mo expressing our desire thou would send us 6 barrels potatoes first sort but not hearing any thin fronm the respecting potatoes we must conclude our letters has some way miscarried. Hoping this may come safe to hand we may inform that our wants for ashes is very great & desire thou may send some first opportunity which will particulary ablidge [OBLIGE] thy friend at this time. Nantucket , 8th month, 1796 Esteemed friend: Henry [Housses?] of [Co?] We received your [Invoices?] 20th May giving advice of 50 [Br=?] [Flour?] which [comes?] safe to [???]. Unfortunately for you the [People?] [Ideas?] was that Flour would be down to 6 or 8 dollars by that [???] there. Been scarcely any sales flour was in a [???] day. [???] for 10 [Dollars?] from several people , we on our part sold some few [bags?] for 12 dollars. [???] 10 not having completed the sales [???] at this time [???] your [Act?] but [???] [???] {ships?] by [???]. [???] [???] not moving the [???] cannot [ascertaion?] the amounts but you may [???] [???] it will be a [???] as what the [oyl?] is sent to [???] this [???] [???] [Capt?] [Meders?] we have not heard from them that [ships?] it as to [Prise?] what the [Gave?]for it but shall attend to it with due respect, remains your friend. Nantucket 9th . 11m [MONTH] 1796 Esteemed Friend. Henry Stouffer & Com. [COMPANY] We have Shipped to you by Capt. [CAPTAIN] Meader 1 Cask of Oil Containing 60 Galns [GALLONS]. which we hope will come to you safe- which leaves a ballance due us on P [PER] Acct. Inclosd [ENCLOSED?] & desire you to pay ["IT TO" CROSSED OUT] Capt. [CAPTAIN] Meader- the prises [PRICES] of the Oil is as low as could be bought. at the times of purchase, if you have any further Command. we are in hopes it will be at a more favourable time as we are still ready to wait on you. Nantucket 18th 11mo [MONTH] 1796 Capt [CAPTAIN] Butler I have talked with the other owners of the Sloop respecting thy Going in her to West Enges [WEST INDIES?] aWhaling and they are all Agreed to the Plans & would wish thou would Send us word the first opportunity when the [THEE?] would wish to be nixt [NEXT?] out as we Can fine her in few Days and we think for the [THEE?] to Come when Ready with 4 or 5 [HANDS?] and take her to the Vineyard & fill her water & proceed from there on your Voyages- we ar Determined to give the [THEE?] as good an outfit as the Voyage may Require we shall be Anxious to hear from the [THEE?] as soon as Possible on Act. [ACCOUNT] of our Gathering Every Material Ready for a 4 Days Start Thomas Butler Dont seem [FORWARD?] to fix his Schooner Unless we should take part of her it is Rather [ILL?] Convenient for us at this time to be concerned in his Schooner Now whether his Schooner Goes or not Shall be Glad thou will Proceed in the Sloop and shall wait thy Answer from thy Friend Silvanus Macy [JR?]

Nantucket 30th. 11 m/o [MONTH]. 1796 Respected Friend Silas Butler Thine of 16th comes to hand informing of thy conclusion to go in the sloop which is Agreeable to us. Should be glad thou would come with a mate & 3 or 4 hands as soon as oppertunity [OPPORTUNITY] Present as their [THERE] will be Liter [LIGHTER] Passing. Estemed Friend Elisha Sigorney we Received thine of this month and observd the contents & we think in Regard to the mode of Bones must be a Matter of time Before come in to in General as it must be much more Difficult for the Manufactory than the Method we have Wont to have Been in as to the first Prise [PRICE] of Candles its a matter must be Left Chiefly to the Seller but as stock is at Present Candles Cant be Afforded for any thing short of a Good Price as [STEAD?] is now up to £105 p [PER] Ton as our Settlements Partly Rests for the Want of our Act [ACCOUNT] from the should be Glad when Conveniant thou would lend it From thy Friend,

Nantucket 27th. 2mo. [MONTH] 1797 Friend J. Jenkins the oyl [OIL] we shall ship if not saleable at NYork [NEW YORK] then will order it on for Phil. [PHILIDELPHIA] or any other way that thou may judge Best for our Interest. In 1785. 6mo [MONTH] I made Voyage in Brig Bedford to Turks Island and then wound up my Act: [ACCOUNT] of several Voyages by Given Drafts on Barzl they all came to hand in season & was Paid Except a Draft I Gave John Cooper for £24.4 Burmuda [BERMUDA] Currency we Silv. [SILVANUS] Macy Jr Expecting this Latter Draft for Several year & we Never in that time could Tell where the sd. Cooper Resided Whether in T Island or Bermuda save when my Br. Barzl Death Caused the Company to Disolve & Provision made to pay it out old Companys Mony since which we have heard [VERBAL?] that the Draft was forwarded (being only single) & the Vessel with the Draft was Lost which leaves Cooper without any shew [SHOW] of Demand makes me think the Reason why we have not heard of him & the Man that had the care of it is Dead Now & still feel Anxious to Pay the same as its justly due & we from Nantucket seldom have Passing to Bermuda, should be glad thou would Talk with Gilcrist Dickason the Man in NYork [NEW YORK] we Paid the other Draft of J. Lyburn Jr to by way of Querie Whether he will Permit us to Rite [WRITE] to sd [SAID] Cooper by way of him to know how we shall pay the £24 4. to Cooper or order so us for the old Companly of Silv.
