Icing for cake ½ cup xxxx sugar good size lump of butter work well in the sugar until soft grate rind of orange add little juice and pulp

If the sponge cake is used as layer cake this can be put between and iced on top. Or used as icing on small gems or square cake cut in small squares with slice of orange on top.

Beat yolk of eggs until thick, add half sugar slowly, beating continually add hot milk and remainder of sugar and whites of egg beaten until stiff. add flavours. Add flour, baking powder and salt sifted well bake in ungreased tube pan 25 minutes

Nut loaves Mrs Williamson 2 cups brown sugar 1 cups milk 4 cups flour 4 tsp baking powder 2 eggs beaten ½ cup American walnuts set aside 1 hr to raise and bake in slow oven ½ quantity makes good size loaf
