1875 Augt 26th Opening Hay Edmond Tucker Cut 21st & will Haul it up to day cleared off yesterday evening last night clear & this morning Sun Shining beautifull & right clear nearly have not seen the Sun much since last Saturday Rented to Edmond Tucker the place where he now lives for the year 1876 till 25th Dec 1876 for Thirty Dollars cash & Five Dollars to be paid in Ditching making Thirty five Dollars, he is to Keep up fencing help do up the [?] fence between him & me, & to put Top on little Barn on Top of mountain & cover good & I am to find for covering the Barn 5 lb nails, I only let him have the Barn & not the field that I want myself

27th Sent Jimmy to Yates Mill 2 Turns 4 Bus for Edmond Dews 2½ Bus Corn for me meal 1 Bushel wheat for Edmond Dews 2½ Bushel wheat for me flour 1 Bus of that Waller Sent for Fan 1½ of my own now Began to Wean Clary Mr Colt

28. This is the Second day we began to wean Clara from her mama, yesterday we had work with Clara, Edmd carried her to water & she would not drink & she rared powerfully & pawed him & Nelly [k]nocked the Bars Twice down while Jimmy was gone to Mill & I had to put her up in Stable & Clary too, both is now fastened up in Stable Raining this morning Jimmy did not get his meal or flour yesterday, but this morning morning he said they told him he could both sent Jimmy to Mill & got meal & flour. Plowed & Hilled up Our Greens & Sewed Turnip Seed in Garden & Edmd Sewed Patch by Stable on Hill Put Cattle in fresh Pasture below the house to day no Rain to day - here

29th I went to Sunday School Joe went with me we could back about 1 oclock & after Dinner down Staunton River it Thundered & before night it Rained a hard Shower & cleared off

1875 August 29th About ½ hour by Sun, another cloud Come up from N W & Rained a hard shower a little in the night & by the we were going to Bed it cleared off again & this morning its clear pretty morning.

30th This morning & succoring over Tobacco I will succor & worm over 1 ps of mine

31st Finished worming & succoring the Tobacco & cutting over that Seems to be firing up did not finish cutting more this morning this side my Corn Nannie & went to Jacobs this day & come back

Sept 1st Wednesday cutting Tobacco above Granary till 12 oclock & will House this evening pretty day yesterday & pretty day to day

2nd pretty morning & warm cutt & Hung 301 Stick of Tobacco that was firing up yesterday

3rd. Sept I went to John Laines to see about about wheat Edmond Getting wood to fire Tobacco pretty day & Hot

4th Sept 1875 pretty morning, moving cured Tobacco from new prize Barn to old, I am going to send to S.S. plantation for wheat made 1875 Got 6 Bushels lent to Sew & nothing & 4 Bushels scanty measure for ¼th part - our folks are cutting & Hauling Tobacco this evening from old field above my corn clear pretty day & Hot Hauling up Tobacco out of old & fresh ground. very pretty day very Hot.

5th I went to Sunday School no Teachers & but few scholars & no Key could not get in the House I bid the children adieu & told them the Sundy was ended -- they have been trying all the year to have no Sunday School clear pretty day

6th Edmond Firing Tobacco Jimmy & Wm worming & succoring Tobacco Miss Nancy Neale here yesterday & is getting right childish clear pretty weather at this time fair weather

7th Edmd Firing Tobacco -I went to See Lowry

8 Edmd Dews pulling fodder to day

1875 Sept 8th Saml Smith Colrd Brot my machine wheels Home & toll wheat from Pannells 5 Bus. & I let them have 1 Bushel. _

9th Edmond Pulling fodder this day worming & succoring awhile in morning clear pretty day I went over to Martin Smiths this morning Poor prospect to live another year

10th Pulling & saving fodder at this time

11th Did not rain last night Put up 1 stack Blade fodder & tyed & Hung on Stalk all that was pulled last & cutting Tobacco this morning in old field

12th. Cloudy & was very cool all day yesterday & this morning cloudy & cool -- rained a little

13th Edmd Tucker & 2 little sons worming & succoring Tobacco & Pulling fodder for me, Edmd Dews cutting & Hanging Tobacco bales this morning Nannie & me went to meeting yesterday very good day it misted rain a little Hauled 1 Load wood

14 Pulling & tying up fodder Stacked 2 stacks

15. Pulling & tying fodder, clear night & pretty day Hauled 1 or 2 Loads wood to prize Barn this morning I went up to Mr Farthings got mine & Nannies Shoes

16 Pulling fodder & stacking 3 Sticks got

Some I went up to Mr Farthings got mine & Nannies Shoeson ground, Edmd Tucker about 3½ hours gatheringEdmd & Chip his with him up my fodder shocking & cutting Broom Corn Rained a little this evening

17 Raising Tobacco last cutting Nellies Colt Clara is weaned about this time

18. Edmond firing tobacco Stacking fodder etc etc Edmond Dews has agreed to Stay Here next year 1876 & work like I want him we will tend the field next to Martin Smiths in Corn, Jimmie gone to Yates Mill, Carried 4 Bus Corn for me meal 4 Bus corn I lent him for meal for Edmd rained to day moderately about 12 oclock.

1875 Sept 19th Rained last night nearly or quite all night fine for Turnips Cabbage etc quite cool this morning, Ed firing Tobacco tho It needs the fire very much If it is Sunday -

20. Wrote to Sallie for Josep W W. & sent Editor of Planter Co stop it,

21st Clear pretty morning & cool Hauled 1 Load leaves this morning Edmond & Jimmy put up my Stack Blade fodder last night tolerable good stack weather cool Pulling & saving fodder this side of branch in the field Joining Mr Lewis I went up to Mr Farthings & Carried Sole Leather for Miss Lakes Shoes Cool day Fanny W Moses here

22. Hauled Load wood this morning, Edmd nearly done pulling fodder got some flat land to put quite cool went to Mt Airy yesterday Fanny W. & me went to Edmd Tuckers & Martins to day. H. W. H & M. W. here to day

23rd Trying to finish pulling fodder to day put up 9 Stacks last night fine weather for Saving fodder we have not had any caught in rain yet cool nights, little frost So they Say

24th. Not quite done pulling fodder, will attend to fodder to day Robert Tucker Carries 1 Hart Log to the Saw Millers Mill & will bring some Plank for me & this evening he carries a Log for his Father & bring another Load of Plank for me clear beautiful morning & quite cool

25. Equal day & night I have delivered to C Miller T J Lovelace's Bond got from Barksdale, Elisha for Land & also let Mr Miller have T J. Lovelaces order to me to help Satisfy the Hunt Debt as that debt is Settled I let the Said Miller have that order pr Rect in Pocket Book formerly belonging to mother Hunt with Statement of Lovelaces Bond, I let him have Ed Cuting my Tobacco & all of his to day & will finish fine weather about fodder & he will tye up

1875 Sept 25, And will expect to get all his fodder gathered together this evening cool weather

26th Rained a little last night cleared of this morning Ed has put up 13 Stacks fodder last one[more to put up yet rather cooler I think - wind blows

27 Ed & all hands hanging Tobacco this morning & Saving fodder & will put up 1- Stack this evening & last making 14 Stacks of Eds & 1 of my own beautiful morning, & warmer Mr JR Whitehead came here yesterday

28 Clear morning finished cutting our Tobacco yesterday last cutting Edmd had 142 Stacks I had 84 Stacks all last cutting in barn back of Garden halling wood this morning

29th Began last evening to plow for wheat Edmd Tucker Carries 1 Log for me to day & will bring back plank for me & then he will Carry 1 Log for himself tomorrow. Edmd Tucker carries 2 Bus wheat for flour for me

this morning carrys another Log to be Sawed into railing & Palinga little cloudy at night

30 Plowing for wheat Edmd Tucker hauled 1 Log for me yesterday & will carry Millers Millfor himself to day Edmd Dews went after Doctor Haley for Mima

Oct 1st Began to Sew wheat in our Lot that come from Strait Stone Creek Sewed 3 Bushels in Lot back of Garden finished it

Oct 2nd Plowing up Land for wheat on the other Side of Side of road above Granary 6 of my shoats not up this normorning yesterday morning Nannie Dews & Wm cutting down my corn & shocking

3rd Tolerable Cool day Stayed at home 8 of my Shoat not up this morning

4th Somewhat cloudy this morning no frost yet to hurt any thing at all

5 Plowing in wheat where I had corn Edmond cutting Hay for me ½ day cloudy a little
