1875 May 12th I have planted my little Crop of Corn Snap Peas symblings etc etc ~

13th. May 1875. Lowry here coltering & fixing my Tobacco Land, Tisbel Trible is here Hilling in new ground for myself, Mr Jas Wright making Drag & working in Shop for me to day - pretty weather cool nights — Ed & Jimmie Plowing for Tobacco in the fresh field above my Corn, manuring plants bed today & picking them

14 Ed & Jimmie Plowimg Tobacco Land Tisbel Trible Hilling for me in new ground Pretty weather cool nights tolerable dry

15th James Hauling rails round lot at old prize Barn Edmond Helping Henry Dillard fix machine wheel stirrups & do some work in shop 2 collers pd. mending swingletree shoing Nellie & Tome Pretty weather cool nights Jacob & family here brot my Guano & stayed till Sunday Eve

16th. Mr Joseph M Moses brought Nannie home to day & Nannie Whitehead Came back with her Sallie is still right Poorly Jerry is improving slowly Kate is well very cool nights & ground getting quite dry & hard - I went to Sunday School which is organised & started Mr Saml J Mattherly was chosen assistant Superindent at

17th. Whitsintide very cool weather partictalar[particular] the nights

18 Tuesday Edmd Dews, Nathl. Came here yes -terday evening & worked in Garden 2 Hours in evening & this morning gone to work hilling in new ground for me Ed Dews & Jimmie fixing land for Tobacco this morning clear & Cool this day, planted some Cantalopes in Garden

19. Edmond Dews Nat, here to day hilling for me & Lowry Coltering Ed & Jimmy fixing for Tobacco Coltering done fixed to Plant ps on branch ps by Bee House clear & cool Mr Walkupstayed here last I went to Mount got 2 mob Boards no 1 1 Land side 0, 1 Bottle peppermint Ginger etc pr Bill hitehead came back with her

21 Ed Dews & Jim Nannie & Wm fixing Land for Tobacco. pretty day fair Ed Dews Nat, Hilling & Tisble Trible in new ground My Hogs Sows & shoats all up but the Boar which is at Henry Templetons & I will Cut him

22 My Hogs all up except Boar at Henry Templeton Edmond Dews fixing Tobacco Land in new ground to day fair day Ed Dews Nat & Tis here till 12 oclock work in Garden fixing Snaps working Greens etc Hilling to plant Greens -

23 I went to Sunday school & dry weather pretty day & warm-

24 cloudy & warm went to Mr Yates yesterday Mr Danl R Hunt & Sister Coleman came here yesterday Raining this morning Ed & all his Gnng will hill this this morning in new ground we have got 10 young Turkeys lost 3, Dolley has not got a calf yet & 3 or 4 of my Sows will have pigs before long Began to Plant Tobacco to day planted ps on branch & nearly got done ps by Bee House before they went to Packing Tobaing Tobacco - Raining Still very pretty & slowly most too hard to be Out

25. Edomd Dews N. Came here Planting Tobacco Greens Tomatoes Pepper etc & helped Edmond put out Tobacco in a [Buk it?] rained & to Ed Dews Ezekiel & me has been planting Tobacco planted all the Hills we have Mr DRH & Sister Coleman left this morning for CH. got done [m?] by 12 oclock Ed D N. & Tis Hilling & working for Ed D. that lives here to help me to get about 3000 Hills more than I have planted for myself.

1875 May 26 Edmd Dews Nat & Ti.] left & I am do done planting my Tobacco yesterday fair pretty day Wm Eds Son drive Cart up to mount & Carrd my old castings 171 lbs sold them to Mr

27th. Edmd Planting corn & Plowing & fixing little places for corn, I went to Election to day -- Nannie & Wm Hilling Tobacco this evening fair pretty day

28. Ed & Jimmie still fixing corn Land to plant Wm & me went to JW Lains to get Bag Sea fowl Guano. got from Whiteheads & Hurts for me

29th Finish planting flat Land corn & began yesterday to replant next to woods above Johns's spring then plowing in shuck pen Lot for Tobacco & give Ed part of it for sweet Potatoe Patch Got my My Wyatt Boar & Cut him yesterday & will put up for his Hog & see how much he will weigh cloudy up a little, Tobacco & every thing we planted this week lives tolerable & looks well - Edmd went this evening by Mrs Pannells to help make a Shelter for Peter Adms to Preach under

30th I went to Strait Stone Sunday School very cool nights & fair day very pretty weather

31st. Ed & Jimmie fixing Land for Tobacco Bedding hilling etc. Kate replanting my corn planting 10 Rows Peas white Kate replanting & cutting Bushel out of my corn Let Mr H Templeton & Boas Lain have last plant Bed we Burnt Last Boas Lain Come in with Mr Templeton 2 days in Harvest till I am Satisfied them & their hands thats working with them

June 1st Tuesday Ed Fixing ground to Plant Tobacco some of them Hilling etc

2nd Cloudy & like for rain JD Hunt here Ed & Jimmie Beding & putting on Guano above my Corn field for Tobacco I went to mount Airy to have my Double Shovel Plow fixed by Mr Younger Cloudy & like for rain

3rd Ed. Hilling & laying off in old field Ed Dews Nat gone to Millers saw mill carry Small sorry Log, cloudy & like for rain Carried another making 4 carried to millers saw mill for railing & Palings for Grave Yard carried by Edmd. Dews N no Rain yet - smart Shower about night

1875 June 4th Small Shower last evening & we are drawing plants & will plant Tobacco to day, Edmond Dews, Nat, left as it rained We are planting old field & all Joining firstthat Fine day to plant, rather cloudy Sun not very Hot but very warm day --

5. Did not get done planting Tobacco Hills made did not have plants drawn replanted mine by Kate. Cloudy this morning, Hauling Out manure on Lot this morning, Dolley Boas Lain would not hold to the Contract about getting plant Bed from me, Templeton takes his half the other half Stands there - Mr Thos Owen agrees to take that that & help in Harvest in time for it

6 I went to Sunday School this day Richrd Whitehead came here yesterday

7 Cloudy & Rained a little last night Hauling Manure out of mules Stables to day on Lot. I fear we will not have enough to go over Rained about 2 Hours moderately to day, they are not quite done Hauling out manure Planting Tobacco this morning in new ground & Replanting all we first Planted

8 replanting & finished Planting Tobacco all but Lot this morning expect to finish replanting Scatter manure on lot & Plow it in & then for the corn field --

9th Hauling out manure & Plowing Lot -

10 Christopher Lain here at work on Plows Hauling out manure & Plowing finished Hauling out manure & finished yesterday & to Plowing in manured clear cool nights Ed Dews, Nat, came here yesterday evening Sun 2 hours High in evening & worked in cotton this morning he is plowing Nelley in my corn Ed D & J. finishing Plowing in manure & Garden & then for corn field, went to Beding Lot this evening

11th Beding Lot & put 1 Bag & ps Gilhams Fertilizer in drill after Scattering manure hauled out

1875 June 11th Ed Beding Lot, Dolley my Big Black Sow has 8 pigs Lady Wyatt & Kit has got 10, clear Hot weather at this time Ed gone to corn field this evening Plowing our corn Jimmie Plowing out garden Greens Potatoes Snaps Cornetc etc etc Ed D Nathl will plowing over my corn this evening & made a start to weed & then it & Replant over

11 Planting Tobacco in Lot drawing Plants replanting my Potatoes this morning Tobacco & Tomatta etc Just Plowed Garden Rained & Hailed & wind Blew very hard rained & Hail Killed the young Turkey

12 12Tremendous 22 June Hail in Piles in many places now Storm in manay places wheat & every thing beat down Planting Lot Tobacco & finished Mr H Templeton came down here this day & told me he wanted 3 or 4000 thousand to finish Planting & Replanting Tobacco & I told him he could not get any till I was done planting I told him If he would come down & help Dews finish he could get 3 or 4000 he done & went & drawed & planted Saturday Replanted Saturday & Mon= =day morning Templeton his wife & Alice Dalton all at my plant Bed again & got more Planted Jere - his wife & family came down in the rain Saturday no rain at his House Friday night

13 Still Poorly Mot & Puss Graves & Jere was Poorly & none of us went to meeting at all

14 Jimmie gone to mill Millers 1½ Bus corn for me & Some for himself Edmond began to Plow in our corn last Friday & Plowing to day clouday & like for rain

15 Jime Ed & Jim Plowing corn Nannie & Wm weed[ing] & thining Kale at work in Garden, Ed Dews Nat. weeding my corn Kate at work in Garden for my wife cloudy & cool - Rained in evening & replanted Tobacco till my Ed Dews Nat helped E Dews Eza this evening
