1875 June 16 Ed & Jimmy Plowing corn Nannie & Wm weeding & replanting Tobacco cloudy & cool yet Finished weeding my corn put up Scare Crows by 12 oclock

17 Rained this evening Ed thined corn till night Turned Our cows in woods, cloudy this morning

18 Ed & Jimmy Plowing corn Nannie & Wm choping & thining corn. Fair day Kate finished working Garden in 1½days. quite cool nights

19th. Ed & Jimmy Plowing corn down near fence next to Mr Lewis Balance thining & choping cool night last night Dolley my Big Black Sow has 8 Pigs the 2 Wyatt young Sows had 10 lost one Some how, 1 of my 8 shoats altered not up this morning & 1 come up crippled

20th. Cloudy this morning - all shoats up this morning I expect tp go Sunday School Nannie Whitehead went with me this morning -

21st Went to Sunday School Nannie Whitehead went & Rained a little before we got home

21nd Ed working Tobacco on Branch in front dining room Door, Jacob Laine has not come yet to carry my Tobacco to Lynchg cloudy & like for rain The Hail storm the 12th reached from N.C. to James River & how much farther I dont know in places Taking the Bark off some trees & the Hail is in piles yet over not far from Mr Woodings for I Saw it last Saturday 21st. Inst. Ed Dews Nat. Came plowing my Tobacco to day

22nd Ed Dews, Nat, began to Cut Clover ½ after 6 in morning our folks halling up leaves for stables this morning & then plowing -- then plowing Ed & Jimmy Hauling leaves in morning then Plowing corn

23rd. Edmd Dews Nat left settled up with him he is so slow Edmd & Jimmy Plowing corn to day next to orchd Fine Rain last evening replanting Tobacco over clear day & Hot went to Martha Neals to see Miss Nancy Smith

24 Edmd & Jimmie Plowing in corn most of the day Edmd Tucker Charles Ham from Mr Owens & Henry Templeton cutting wheat Kate Tis. Nannie Dews Tying up & Jimmy Tying Some & Wm Piling to finish shocking now.

1875 Friday 25 I went up to Mr Moses Jerrys & Richd whiteheads & could not get Henry Dillard to Shoe my mare & got her shod by Mit at Mr Whiteheads Ed Plowing corn & nearly got over one time

26 Tis. left this morning Tis Trible at work in my Tobacco Ed trimming out corn etc I got home in night from on River clear day & warm day - young white Sow Edmd Says has Pigs 7 or 8 -

27th I am too poorly to go to Sunday School this morning

28th Edmd & his gang chopping & Hoeing his flat Land corn I am Plowing mine with Molly alse & Reno weeding my Tobacco ------ ground getting dry & Windy to day

29th Loading Mr Wm Tucker waggon with all of our Tobacco very little, Started from before 12 oclock Alse & Reno finished weeding my Tobacco & went in corn choping & replanting some Edmd & his gang choping corn in Johns's field - Rained light shower this evening

30th Jimmy Plowing Tobacco Edmd & Wm choping corn Wm Tucker Carried off our Tobacco yesterday to Lynchg. Alse Thompson & Reno Ham wed out my ThompsonTobacco chopped over my corn & choped Some in Garden - Hot weather began to Plow & weed Tobacco in fresh ground or new ground to day Nannie Dews Comp -laining with her Arm to day Clear hot day

July 1st. Clear cool morning sent Jimmy to Yates Mill 2 Bus. corn for me & Edmd Sent 2 Bags

- 2 working in Tobacco above Granary cloudy & likely for Rain Had a Large Swarm Bees to day Settled in Top of Aspen by little dairy put them in Box Gum

3rd Plowing & working Tobacco above road & new above wheat Patch Joining old field

4 I did not go to Sunday School cloudy & I too Poorly

5 Nanny Wm & Mima working Tobacco on Branch Edmd & Jimmy gone to corn field Laying by -- dry Hot weather Severe Thunder Storm with wind

1875 July 6th replanting Tobacco this morning fine Rain yesterday evening severe wind--- Weeding Tobacco in cow pen & Lot this evening

7 Edmd Dews & Edmd Tucker cutting oats to day till after 3 oclock & it Rained from that time we done nothing not much Rain

8th Cloudy & mist Rain Sometimes Ed & Jimmy laying by corn & continues to look like rain, __ Edmd Tucker & Edmd Dews cutting oats this evening cloudy & like for rain,

9th. Rained last night & this morning Sometime in the day ground very wet thining corn etc weather very Hot, Just began to Lay by our corn one or two days Garden very foul & wants work very much Still Cloudy & like for rain this evening again Hauled Load leaves for Stables Rained in evening also

10 Strait Stone Meeting We are all going to day Baptising to day 2 Miss Singletons Baptised by Bro Booker

11th Raining this morning & yesterday Richard Sallie & children came here Sunday 10th July 1875

12th Rained more or less all day to day Salley & Richd here cloudy & foggy this morning Sallies child Better this morning mighty sick nearly all day yesterday very wet time cant Plow every thing wants work & nothing can get it ground very wet. Want to Plow Turnip patch Sallie Baby very Sick one day & night while here We are not quite done quite done Cutting Oats Sallie & Richd & children left this morning I am going down to Meeting House this morning to See If any meeting is going on etc etc. broke up this evening

13th Ed & his h2ands working on Road about Spring fixing up Bars etc that goes into corn field & Plowed up Turnip Patch to day tolerable good day went meeting - broke up

14 Ed & Jimmy Plowing lay by corn, I went Starkeys Rained about 12 oclock & then went to fencing ground wet

1875 July 15th Cleared of & pretty evening Edmd Tucker come at 12 oclock to cut oats he cut about 3 hours & it rained very hard washed away Bridges

16th. Fixed Bridges & opened wheat & oats too both injuring ground very wet I went up to Mr Laines rented to Booker Fitzgerald Strait Stone plantation for $100 till 25th Decr 1876 as pr Bond & agreement - fair day. I went to Mr Farthings got Shoes he had to mend,

17 Edmond Hauling 1 Load leaves in Stables this morning Ed & Jimmy went to Plowing - the others not doing much grass taking my Garden & some our Tobacco very warm weather

18th Sunday I went to Sunday School to day no rain, but this evening it looks like it will rain to nigh.t cloud rising now very warm indeed

19th. Did not rain last night Hauling up wheat this morning Tom Laine here cutting & saving grass a little cloudy Finished Hauling up white and now Hauling up Oats to day first cut - cloudy but has not rained

20th Plowing Garden out to day & in Tobacco Lot Did not rain last night & dont like rain now Everything in Garden is ru away with grass Raining this evening a little again cant work the ground any where

21st Rained this morning very hard & Cloudy al Sent Jimmy to Yates Mill 2 Bus corn for meal for me & 2 Bags for Ed ground So wet cant do any thing Ed is Hauling rails & fencing around corn field -- & Cross fence Mr Wm W Moses & Ed B Fitzgerald here to day

22nd Cloudy & like for rain Warm weather

23. Clear morning Jimmy Plowing in corn Ed & Balance working in Tobacco weeding & Plowing Mr Doron Hunt staid here all night rained in the evening I went to Mount Airy

24. Clear pretty morning Ed & Jimmy plowing corn Nanny & Wm finish working old field Did not

25 rather too poorly to go to Sunday School Rain

1875 July 26 Robt Tucker here Plowing my corn to day clear pretty morning very Hot - Jimmy laying by corn, Edmond Toping Tobacco this morning then Plowing with Jimmy in corn field thank God for this pretty morning Sewed Black Peas in upper end of my corn field to day & little white Pea in the lower end of my corn field Mr Joseph M Moses came down here to day & Put the machine Drum in & we think it will run very well dont a tooth touch each other

27th Robert Rained after Mr Moses left finished corn by 12 oclock & then went home after Dinner - Ed working lot Tobacco Jimmy finished Plowing on Side it over - pretty day up to 12 oclock - Rained this evening

28 Putting Manure on Turnip Patch this morning & will Plow it up again Toping Tobacco fenced in Oats Stacks working Tobacco Lot it rained little in evening Ed Tucker & 2 Sons at after dinner working out Cotton & Potatoes did not quite finish choping etc corn

29 Edmd & Jimmy laying by Corn Nelly Plowing EdmdTucker & 2 Sons Hilling Tobacco Robt Tucker Plowing Tobacco, Fanny Moses here & Wm Graves here sent Mary James 1 Pig fine day for Killing Grass

31st Edmd Dews & Jimmy Plowing corn Robt Tucker & Bro Edmd here Hilling up Tobacco to day - clear this morning and a pretty morning Robt. & Edmd Jr here working my Tobacco to day as above Only worked till 12 oclock & Rained & stoped them

August 1st. Cloudy all the morning & Rained Some & likely for rain this evening. Rained about night

2nd Rained nearly all night last night Mr Jos M Moses Kate & Puss Graves Garret Graves s Daughter Stayed all night last night gone this morning home Edmd Toping Tobacco choping weeds on Ditches in new ground & hand weeding new ground Tobacco cleared off this morning 10 oclock Sun shining
