14 March 1873 field by Owens Barn running after my Cow Sock beating her with a stick & Edmonds Son Edmond had a Hoe & Hitting the cow with it & Broke off the Cows Horn Heavy with Calf & we have been looking for her to have it, Kit & Sarah brot the Cow Sock home with one Horn off & she bleeding [very] fast from her Horn [w?] the SKin off took the [Horn] away & bound [???t] Tar & spts Turpentine to it & [we] Could not stop it for some time & I thought She would bleed to death, toward night it ceased [from] bleeding so much & I am afraid she will yet die, Kit & the Plowers caught the Said Boys [b???] & Knocking her as if they were trying to Kill her Tom Martins Son had a long stick, & I expect the Cow will loose her calf - 14 My cow I hope is better this morning. Davy hauled [??? Palings] before he started to Hauling leaves 15 Kit Sarah & Mary Plowing in Oats this morning 15 The Pantry Key & the Kitchen Key one would unlock both, we took off the Lock off the Kitchen Lock & the Smoke House Locks & the [Smoke] Lock & put that one on the Kitchen & put that on the Smoke House & the one on the Kitchen put on the smoke House & took one [??] the Keys in the bigest little Box in my Secretary wraped up & marked - & the Smoke house Key & Pantry Key is the Same, [??] 16th My Wife went J R Whiteheads last Friday 14th March. Very pretty day to day Sunday quite windy yesterday & to day & Turned little Cooler, & clear 17th . Still clear weather this morning. Kit [Mary] & Sarah Sewing Oats Davy Hauling leaves on Lot Milton Raking 18th Took up my Irish Potatoes this morning very Sound good Kit & Sarah Plowing in Oats Mary Plowing up 1 Square in Garden Sewed Peas & Beets & some [?????] Seed in Garden Set out Some Beets for Seed Mr Mattherly finished Garden yesterday Rained {?? ???] to day

Bro formed [??back] of this Book - [???] 8th Cart & steers [?????] to mill 1 days work [???] 1 day 1873 Sept 2oth Logs Carried to Lewis Yates mill 1 Log for Mr Yates lent me last Spring 1 Log for myself 12 or 13 feet long to Square edged Plank 1873 Oct [21st] Killed my Bull weighing about 360 [lbs] pound, sold 1/2 of him. 1874 Nov 10 Killed 4 House Hogs weighing 500 [lbs] Jany 1st Kill my 6 Hogs 1 Hog weighed 150 [lbs] ["] Kill 1 Do 120. 1 Do. 125. 1 Do. 130 375 Killed 1 Do. 128 1 Do. 133 261 786 1874 Kill in all Pork $1286 Feby 26 Killed 1 Hog weighing I think 130 Killed in all 1416 1873 Jany 29 Hung up our first Killing of this day as follows 12 Middling 12 " Shoulders 12 Hams 12 " " Joles 6 Hung up of [????? ?????] ps 42 1873 These [??] Hogs in Bacon about 450 [lbs] Feby 18 Hung up our Pork Killed last 3 Hogs 6 Middlings 6 Hams & 5 shoulders making 17 [peices] Hung Bacon 300 Bacon 750 [lbs] 1873 March 3rd Took down 9 Shoulders 5 Hams 2 Middlings & Pack them in Box up stairs, 16 ]Pieces] & leave 32 ps Hanging up & 5 Joles besides them this day 180 2 360 March 20th Took down all our Bacon to day Put 2 middlings & Balance in Meat Box Hams & shoulders 2 Joles 1 Ham rat eaten Smartly 32 ps with Joles [Hung up to] Put 2 of the Bigest Hams & the Balance in [?????] is middlings [that] about 15 or 16 of them

1872 March 13th I have agreed with Martin [???] to do his milling when we go for ourselves & he is to pay me 1/2 days work every time I go or carry any for him as below -- March 14th To mill one time for you 1/2 days work due me April 1 To 2 days work due me for Horse & [Plows] 1 day for you to Plow 2 Sent to mill for you 1/2 day you owe me 22. Steers Plow & [chain] 1 day to Plow you are to find them & give me 1 1/2 days work for every day you have them 23 Steers Plow &C to Plow 1 day for yourself 1 1/2 [days due me] 24 Credit by 1 day you coltered for me on Branch [???] May 4 Sent to mill for you 1/2 days work due me for [????] 5 days [??????] -- 18 [1 1/12] days more for going to mill for you.
