October last. I beg to acquaint you that on the 29th following I proceeded to Bridlington for the purpose of receiving from the representative of the late Mr Stephenson several anchors, chains etc? that had been deposited by Salvors in the admiralty yard during the time he held the office I now? fill on which occasion my travelling expenses amounted to Thirteen shillings.
I request to be informed whether I am to charge the said sums of 13/= againt the proceeds of sale of the said anchors together with such other expenses I may receive? when I attand the sale after the 7th ?? as whether I am to submit the same for your approval in order that I may be re-paid such expenses in the manner provided by a General order of the Customs Department Nov? ?? 1855
