1874 July 26 Edmond Hauled out manure to Turnip Patch & 1 Load Leaves in Stables Martin Choping in corn at mountain Nannie gone to Mount Airy with her Mamma from there she went to chalk Level & her Mamma & [Mema] attended to her business 27 I went school (Sunday) at S Stone rained in morning held up till I got to meeting House then rained all day nearly Replanted Tobacco & Thinned Corn Monday Rained Tremendous hard this morning Monday Nannie replanting Tobacco with the balance 28th Rained last & this morning till 10 or 11 oclock Thining Corn this evening. Ed & Jimmy Bro [From] [?????] W Moses Miss Martha his white back no horned cow 29 Raining nearly all Ed & Martin making Bars for lower field to day fix Turkey roost up & finished Thinning corn & replanting Tobacco 30th Plowed Turnip Patch choping Bushes out of Tobacco in new ground, choping corn on Hill by Edmds House I went to Mount Airy but got no papers nor any thing else 31 Went after my Papers to day & got them sent my 2 mules to help John Lain Thrash wheat on creek & Jimmy carried them up there Ed Plowed & working Lot by new Barn & choped Bushes out of Tobacco in fresh field & choped corn on Hill August 1st I went up to Strait Stone Creek Plantation Rent the place to John W Lain sent up my mules by Jimmy yesterday & help Mr Lain Thrashed his wheat yesterday evening & Jimmy & mules got home about dark Ed Martin & Jimmy working Tobacco in fresh ground above House next to road looks like rain this evening 2nd Ed Fitzgerald here & Wm I went to Sunday School & he went to Edge Hill Meeting & Sunday School - 3rd Ed Plowing Tobacco next to fresh field & Balance Hilling up or winding down Mr Epperson at work on Big Waggon & Cart Wheels put in 4 spokes 2 in each & 2 fellows 1 in each

1874 August 4th Sent one Bushel corn to Mr Yates Mill for meal for my self By Edmond Tucker Edmond Dews Plowing Tobacco in old field next to fresh field & Martain [??] working it, cloudy this morning This evening Ed & Jimmy Plowing in corn below the House, Nannie Dew working in Tobacco with Martain 5th Plowing in corn Martin & Nannie at work in Tobacco 6 Abraham Dews & Edmd at work in Black Smith shop on Waggon & Cart wheels [& ???le] in Black Smith 7th Toping Tobacco send to Yates Mill Edmd Dews 4 Bushel corn lent for meal Martin 2 Bus lent & I sent 1 Bushel corn for meal Jimmy come back by 12 oclock lent Mr Jas Wright 1 Bus corn cleaned out Granary for halling up wheat in the evening Ed Hauled up leaves to put in stable Rained more or less all day Mr Burton Preacher from Mulenburg went from here yesterday - morning Finished working [p????] of Tobacco in old field [???] the Granary Colaman Hubbard Cut Some Hay 8th Edmond Dews laid up with Rheumatism about 10 oclock I went to meeting cloudy & like for rain every minute cleared off 9th clear pretty my wife & myself went to Strait. Mr [Reeves] came & Preached for us Bro Reeves Preached yesterday evening at 4 oclock -- 10th Fixing Turnip Patch this morning & will sew it & then Plow young corn at Mount Spring 11th Plowing again over on mountain to day meeting going on at Strait Stone at this time Finished plowing at Mount to day about 1 oclock Ed in house yet Martin Toping Tobacco Jimmy [??] Wm chopping corn below House this evening 12th Hauling up wheat to day but shall not finish 13 Raining & wind Blew very hard last night to day we are getting up apples & [B?????] them Coleman here all day getting up apples. 14 Hauling up wheat to day & finished Hauled 1 Load Hay yesterday & 1 to day finished that

15th Wormed succored some Tobacco Killed a shoat Made Hinges to stables on Hill, went after Mr Moses Red Heifer & my young Milly last night & Helped Edmd Tucker fix gate over on mountain &C Ed in House yet & has been in House with Rheumatism all the week clear to day fine weather Turned [??] 2 Hefers in Pastor with my steers to day. 17th Martin Smith fixing Doors to Stables & Corn House & done but little Saturday & done nothing to day till 2 oclock Jimmie with him gate & steer Stable not touched I told to go to work or quit Ed went up to see old Arch Morsham & done nothing Plowed some Tobacco Henry Templeton Fanned out wheat & left about 12 Bus wheat for Mr Whitehead I went to Mount Airy after my Papers - 18th Nannie & me went to [association] at Edge Hill Ed Working & Plowing young Tobacco to day. clear pretty day good many Poeple at [association] 19th chopping & working young Tobacco & corn over on mountain clear fine weather for association 20th Plowing & working Tobacco by new Barn to day 21st Digging our Irish Potatoes very sorry finished. by 12 oclock Jimmy Plowing Tobacco out above granary. [Severed] Turnip seed by the [Gap goes] into fresh ground & in ps Tobacco by new Barn 22nd Finished chopping Tobacco at new Barn by [Bens] House & on Branch to day smart little shower of Rain about 1 oclock to day, I went to Mr Creaseys this morning carried 7 [lbs] Butter sold it at 18 cts pr Pound too low - they owe me 10[cts] 23 Beautiful shower of rain about 1 oclock & about 1 hour by Sun there came up a cloud & quite a hard rain & Kepted on nearly all night & next morning & cloudy all day

1874 Aug 24th Cloudy & like for rain this morning worming Succoring & toping Tobacco this morning, raining & continues Raining a little more less Turn cooler 25th Still Cloudy Toping worming & succoring] Tobacco got over this evening great many worms began to get up apples for another [press] fall went to Abrams Dews & got [Millies] shoes changed 26 Ed Dews went down to Mr Hubbards to get him to [????? ??] -- matter between Ed Dews & Archer Worsham & got another old shoe [M?????d] on Molley as the one put on come off in a few days for [nother?] 27th Pressed out another press full of apples for Ed &C Plowing Tobacco in old field & Hilling it up today 28 Plowing in our old field Tobacco & Hilling it up I carried Nannie up to Mr Whiteheads to See Sallie & to go to meeting & to Jerries protracted meeting at new prospect next week cool weather 29th I went to Strait S. to G Plowing & Hilling up new ground next to fresh field cloudy 30th I went to Sunday School not many there Rained before I got there & raining all evening fine growing weather now at this time Miss Frankey [Leake] came about the 27th or 28 [???] 31st Ed gone up to Mr Worsham to Settle with him but dissatisfied about it, he got $20- day lost sent Jimmy to Millers Mill 2 1/2 Bus Corn for me meal 2 Bus & 3 Galls wheat for flour, 4 Bus corn for Ed & 2 Bushels [thurs] sent got all but wheat Hauled 83 slabs from Martins got of him Brot my wife home yesterday [30th] August Sept 1st Worked out our last planting yesterday Coleman Hubbard here this morning working Did not do any thing on acct of Hornetts On new Barn cutting down corners &C &C &C &C worming & Succoring our Tobacco to day put Leaves in Stables yesterday & Hauled up Boards 2nd Worming & succoring Tobacco Sold Mr Younger [?????] Spoke Timber to day for $1.20 worming 3rd & Succorring working young Tobacco 4th Thursday sent [M?]4 Rakes & 2 Iron manure forks sent Edmond & 2 mules over to help Mr Wooding thrashing his wheat this morning ---

1874 Sept 4th Clear Beautiful weather fixing here to thrash wheat ourselves Sept 5th Mr Moses Brot From his House my machine & him Jerry has concluded not to take no part of it Brought it home & we put it down [Friday] evening & Ed did not get from Mr Woodings till about night & we began to thrash Saturday morning not very soon got done & cleaned up before night a little & had Coleman Hubbard Ed & [Chas] from Edmd Tucker Andrew Wyatt Tom Talbot from Mr Woodings & Ferd Toby [son come] here & staid till we finished. 6 I went to Sunday School not many Scholars nor Teachers {Faney] W Moses & Matty Hunt & their children came here to dinner & gone to meeting -- & at night Geo E. Coleman & Mr Moses came 7 this morning Geo & [Mattie] started for CH Mr Moses for Home & in evening Fanney & her children [???] Our Folks Plowing & working last Tobacco we Planted in fresh ground 8 Worming & succoring Tobacco cover Barn but not Get done clear pretty day 9th Worming & succoring Tobacco sonn & began to put fodder to day by Eds House Mr Wright & sowing finished covering Tobacco House [reving] Board Mr Wright Hung the door to Tobacco House clear & cool this morning 10th Worming Tobacco this morning & succoring Tobacco above Granary, Fanning out wheat for Ed & Martin Smith Ed had 2 1/2 Martin 1 1/2 Bushels [11th] Pulling fodder Tying up fodder [Bl?d Jane] in fresh field above Granary weather moderate 12th Sept Worming & succoring Tobacco Tying up & gathering up fodder together to day weather 13 [??] modeerate very warm ever since friday [1?th] Gathering fodder & expect to stack some to day 14 Stacked 3 stacks last night & 1 Rick 15th Raining this morning worming succoring 15 Tobacco Fanning out wheat
