1874 June 13th Plowing fresh ground opposit wheat I went to S Stone Meeting to day 14th Nannie & myself Went to S S Meeting to day Worked Nellie to the Buggy she worked very will & Gentle, 15th weeding corn in fresh ground opposit wheat 15 Plowing corn above Granary this evening 16th Ed & Jimmy Plowed out Garden & now Bedding Lot at new Barn for tobacco to day, cloudy & warm Martin & [Cale] Dews finished weeding fresh ground & now weeding & thining above Granary to day. 17 Cutting wheat in Lot & finished Ed & Jimmy Plowing in corn above Granary Hired Coleman & Edmond Tucker to Cut Wheat to day very pretty day wind little cool from N. W. Martin Smith has been sick [ever] last Saturday 12th 17 Taken very sick & taking Physick to day 18th Martin Sick Yet & nobody weeding corn to day Ed & Jimmy Plowing above road to Miss Neales to day Very Hot & Dry to day clear weather 19 I have to Mount Airy this morning Ed & Jimmy finished Plowing [ps] corn by his House Plowed his Patch & then Plowing corn on Branch. 20th Edmond Tucker & Coleman Hubbard Cutting wheat for me & Ed Dews & C, Ed & Jimmy Finished corn on Branch this evening & trying to get over our corn one time, Mrs Wyatt here to day Hiram & Nanny Dews & Jane Smith tying up wheat [Cate] shocking wheat 21st I went to Sunday School clear Hot day 22nd Weeding little [ps] Tobacco before dining room door Martin Smith has not come yet nor Jane neither Martin came out yesterday [or] this day. 25. fixing Tobacco Land to Plant & put up some shocks of wheat thats down. Clear this morning Martin Jane & Cate weeding corn above Granary 24 From 12 oclock no Plowing nor weeding corn to all hands & [Our] Cook droping Guano & Hilling up next to fresh field to Plant Tobacco should it rain got done Beding the old field [ps] by 12 oclock Laid the other way droped the Guano & Hilled nearly Five thousand Hills in it 5000

1874 June 25 Mrs Wyatt has returned this [morning] to cooking & washing &C. Coleman Hubbard Coltering in new ground for Tobacco Balance weeding corn Nannie Dews too & her Mama is to work our Garden Potatoes & cotton for Nannie time as her mama went to See [Mima] 2 or 3 days ~ clear & Hot at this time Finished weeding corn above Granary weeding over the road to Miss M Neales from Barn very Hot to day Ed & Coleman Hubbard coltering [new] adjoing the old field for Tobacco above 2 or 3000 Hills there,- shocking wheat in big Lot yesterday morning & this morning - no rain yet 26th Coleman Hubbard here coltering in new ground Hilling & Coltering new ground or fresh ground began to Hill upper pt at the Corner fenced 27 Dry & Hot weather coltering in new & Hilling & cutting of as we go Coleman Hubbard little over 1/2 day & made out the time in evening Making 2 1/2 yds coltering in new ground 28th I went to Sunday School Jere came here last night to see us very Hot day 29th Fixing to put House Hogs in the Lot by corn House as sow will have pigs shortly. -- Laying by & choping corn above the road to [M Neals] to day looks like rain some little. 30th June Ed & Jimmy laying by corn & choping over the Road toward Miss M Neale Nelly Plowing to day finished Laying by corn over the road Laying by some next to Edmond House Rained this evening & still cloudy like rain is on hand July 1st Nannie & me went up to Jerrys & then she will go to see Sallie tomorrow Plowed & worked some Tobacco layong by corn above Granary &C. 2nd Sent to Millers Mill 2 Bus corn for meal for me 2 Do for Martin lent & 2 1/2 Bushel Corn

for Edmond for meal lent [????], Bbl now for 1 1/2 Bbls at at the fall Edmond Dew Plowed my Cotton & Potatoes to day Carried Nannies Butter to Mr Creasey & sold for 20 cts pr lb & Engaged my 2nd July 1874 Bacon to Ham 14 1/2 lbs pr lb [midlings] 12 1/2 lbs cents pr lb & shoulders 10 cts pr lb 3rd July Laying by corn above Granary & finished that [pt] snd then over in the fresh ground opposit wheat Martin & Nannie replanting Corn over at Moun=tain Spring Cate, Washed our Hams & they are Sunning to day clear Hot day Geo Wright plowing in Jimmys place & he is gone after shingles 4th July Finished laying by fresh ground to night I went up to Mr Whiteheads after Nannie & come home this evening - very Hot weather -- 5 I expect to go to Sunday School to day -- 6th Coleman & Edmond Tucker Cutting Oats Martin shocking up oats Hyram Wyatt packing away my shingles I got from .. Geo. Wright. Edmond Dews Plowing on Branch [farm] & [clean] [James L?????] Nannie Dews & Jimmy tying up oats Martin [????] shocking [on] part for himself. Clear pretty day - 7th Edmd Tucker & Coleman Hubbard cutting Oats to day & Will nearly or quite finish, Jane Smith Nannie, & Jimmy Tying up oats Martin Shocking Edmd Dews Plowing corn on branch or Hill Side, oats quite [sorry]. fair & Hot days. Geo Wright here getting slab Timber to cover Tobacco Barn Mr Lain come over but could not work -- 8- Edmd Dews & Jimmy lowered our Tobacco in Barn back of Garden this morning - then went to Plowing Pea Patch & on Branch chopping corn on [Branch] Finished replanting corn over at Martins Branch Martin Jimmy & went with our waggon to Mr Yates to see what makes it run So hard Bro John McHaney met [me] below Camp Branch & we carried Rocks [on] for Steps Meeting House doors & put them up

1874 July 8th Doct Estes & champ went on to the meeting House & help all they could & began to fixe up the rock steps to each Door & Mr J Hubbard waggon came after a load of corn & Bro McHaney & myself with the help of John Moon & Jimmy that went with continued the work till we finished & we carried the waggon to Mr Yates & left it till Saturday for him to fix & got home by 1/2 after 1 or two oclock both of the steps finished &C -- fair windy day. 9th found a swarm of Bees settled on apple tree yesterday Ed Plowing & weeding corn to day Martin & Nannie Dews Coleman Hubbrd cutting & raking up stay in to day J P. Hunt here 10th July Plowing corn below house chopping corn on Branch 11th Bro Reeves & Mr Moses & Cate here pretty shower of Rain last evening & a Beautiful rain this morning Monday, Edmd got all our Tobacco down yesterday Saturday & it took him Cate Jimmy & Nannie nearly all day or more than half the day and if the Lord permits will start to Lynchg with it Tuesday morning - Thank God for the Rain, nobody went to meeting, this evening Bro. Reeves went on home, & Mr Moses & Cate went Home & I sent Jimmy up to to Mr John Lains to inform him must Plant Tobacco Tomorrow 12 Fine rain last evening & last night & Planting the Hills we have made, out of Bed on John's Branch fine rains & good Plants & fine growing weather could not get Coleman Hubbard to help Plant 13th Planting & replanting Tobacco & fixing to start waggons with our Tobacco I went to Mr H Lain & got him to carry a load @ 3cts pr Hundred 14 Loading waggons with all Tobacco & its all gone John W Lain & Mr [Hiram] Lain carried it

15th Ed & Jimmie loging buy Corn by Eds House & finished & laying below the House. Nellie plowing yesterday & to day. Doron come last night & here yet 16th Nellie & Molley plow corn below House Martin & Jimmy & Nannie Hilling & planting Tobacco in fresh ground to day they are choping in corn On Branch & below House 17th got over Plowing corn [????] & Plowing by Black smiths On account so much grass. about the corn, Martin coltering for Tobacco in new ground another [square] & we will quit 18th Finished plowing except the Branch coltering in fresh ground for Tobacco Hot day -- Finished coltering & [Beding] & Hilling to Plant it in Tobacco,- Fair morning --- 19th I went to Sunday school this day 20th Monday I went to W W Moses to see Fannie who is not well but not See Billy Ed Fitz or other of Fannies other children very warm dry day 21st Plowed Tobacco in front Dining Door & Halling it up to day & began to stack oats & it rained & stoped them Plowed & Hilled up by Bus Did not rain much yet Mrs Wyatt so complaining as to let her off, which we did & Hired Nannie Dews till Christmas @ $2 pr month, still cloudy & like for rain 22nd Fine Rain last night & raining yet We expect to Plant the last ps we Hilled of the fresh ground & replant all we have 23rd Plowing corn over on mountain &C &C 24 Finished Plowing corn over on mountain 25 went to mill but did not get the meal for Edmd & Martain 2 Bushels lent each of them Hauled out Manure & rails to Turnip Patch & fixed that gone to Stacking Oats this morning got home last night little after Sun down cloudy this morning Finished stacking oats got 4 stacks. working in Tobacco Here Jimmy gone to Mill after Meal for Martin & Ed Martin choping in corn over at mountain Spring last we planted cloudy & like for Rain
