1873 July 1st. We have finished planting fresh ground above Granary & my ps flat Land put in drill whans Guano for Tobacco now Plowing & weeding corn below or the other Side of Big Lot replanted Some in Big Lot this morning - clear pretty day

2nd Plowing & laying by Corn below the House & weeding corn next to woods the other Side of big Lot. Mary Laid by Corn & Cotton & Geo Choped them or it out after her Plowing & worked out a little of my Tobacco on Hill, Edmd brot back my frow & auger & the Singletree he Knows nothing about it. I have 2 of them missing. Halling up last Stack blade fodder we have balance gone Hauled up ps wheat next to Templetons Hogs ruined it

3 Plowing in corn & some of them working in corn with Hoes Mary washed I went to Henry Dillards Shop with Harrow tilth machine Iron etc & with Sallie up to Mr Creasys

4th July working some on Tobacco Plowing & choping corn to day got Shoe put on Bill by Henry Dillard Sallie left this yesterday morning for home I went to Jos M Moses & Wm Moses yesterday laying

5 last by corn by Black Smiths shop working in Corn & Tobacco evening came up a cloud & fine Rain This morning replacing my Tobacco & Big Lot Edmd Sent me Some Collard Plants & replanted my Greens by Geo. Cleared off pretty weather Did not have Plants to finish replanting Biglot sent to Thos Woodings after Some Tobacco Plants but did not get any Plants at all to replant tho our folks ought to be in the corn they are Chopping in the new ground when they ought not to be till they they the corn except the Branch that ought to be Harrowd Harrod

1873 Saturday 5th. Sunday 6th I went to Sunday School this morning fine Hot day but few scholars or teachers

Monday 7th. Sent Milton to Mill this morning carried for me 2 Bags Corn 4½ Bus. for meal 3 Bus for Kitt lent him a Bag 2 Bushels corn for Sarah & Milton Plowing & working & Corn & Tobacco to day I went to Mount Airy in evening Saw Jacob P Graves got Letters from GD Neal Mr J. Graves & Colo Hamner about Sale of Tobacco

8 Cutting Lot Oats yesterday & this morning little cloudy this morning been raining Since about 11 oclock more or less replanting Big Lot went to Mr Woodings after Tobacco plants got few have not Plowed much to day I went to Edmonds & Martins to get them to Come in morning & help me replant Mine Edmond said he would come Martin I did [see] I dont Know what they are doing here it has rained 3 Showers this evening

9 Finished replanting this morning Robt Helped me replant my Tobacco 1 hour Jane come soon & She worked about 3½ hours Went home found her Child & stoped Kit & Mary went to Plowing in Corn Milton & Sarah as usual doing but little

10th Laying By Corn & weeding Tobacco Saml J Mattherly here fixing Machine to Startthat

11 Laying by Corn & working Big Lot Tobacco I went to Mr Lovelace's to day very Hot. Kit finished cutting oats at Bars in fresh fieldto day

12th. Harrowing corn on Branch they have not finished Big lot yet weeding I am going to meeting to day

13 Rained last night in night Smart showers Clear this morning & warm I went to meeting& Sunday School

14th Hauled up Load wheat this morning Kit Cutting Oats On Mountain to day Milton & Mary Harrowing Corn to day Clear & Hot weather

1873 July 15th Plowing & Harrowing Corn to day Balance chopping below House in corn I went to Mr Bankes to day & Just before It rained smart little Shower of Rain

16th Marlene here at work to day in Garden Sweet Potatoes cutting oats etc will work here to day Edmond Tucker Cutting Oats from 9 Oclock till night did not finish Plowed [smudged] in morning

17 Lowry here to day helping me about Taking [smudged] Sunning etc Hauling up wheat worked Out my sweet Potatoes Sarah & Milton George & Helping Hauling wheat & Tobacco taking off mould etc, Mr Mattherly here fixing double shovel Plow Kitt & Mary Plowing Corn the other Side of Branch Finished cutting Oats clear pretty Hot day

18 All hands at Same work to day & will Put Out Tobacco again to day Lowry Here again

19th. Put Out Some Tobacco this morning Mary Plow ing in Corn Sarah & Milton replanting Corn on Branch Kit Trying to Plow Turnip Patch Rained yesterday & some of my Tobacco got Smartly Wet - Jacob P Graves came over last night, making arrangements for the Machine to be Carried Some Where this day & put down ready for work Monday morning Machine gone to Mr John Hodnetts this evening

20. I went to Sunday School Stayed till ½ past 11 oclock got home by 1. Stayed till ½ after 2. Started to the CH Stayed there till 2 Oclock this 21st July. Started for home got home by night Laying by Corn this Side of Branch

22 Laying by Corn this Side of Branch. Finished Laying By Corn to day at 12 Oclock Plowing new ground & Mary Plowing my Lot Kit Plowing my Greens & went on Plowing Big Lot this evening Layed by my Corn on Branch to day

1873 July 23rd Prizing & Sunding & Dewing Our Tobacco. Mary & Geo & me prizing Lowry Sarah & Milton Hilling up my Tobacco in Lot

July 24th Lowry Here for Kit Hauling up wheat I went to Mr Banks yesterday morning

" 25 Prizing Tobacco to & could have but the Tobacco was moldy Lowry took down & We have got to Sun it finished one Hhd & the other others nearly full, fine mouldy & had to peel that out too. - fine weather, a little dry now

26 Hauled 10 little Shocks Oats from field to use Lowry hauled them Mr Moses Jacob & Kale here last night.

27 I went to Sunday School E.B.F. went with me

28th Lowry here working for Kit in new ground to day, fixing to Start to Lynchg with our Tobato day 12 or 1 Oclock or Sooner Carried 1 Hhf & all our Lugs about 200 lbs or over

29 Hilling up Big Lot I went to Shop Jerres & Mr Whiteheads & back home to day

30th Hilling up Big Lot again to day I am going up to Banks this morning finished Hilling up all that was Plowed

31st. Kit come home with waggon from Lynchg made the trip in 2½ day Gone home last night night & my mules Shod before by Henry Dillard -Got up & stacked our Oats this morning made 3 stacks & a little over — & a little after 12 Oclock there came a cloud & rained a beautiful shower of rained sometime without any wind while our folks were eating after they finished the Oats now Plowing Big lot & will finish in a little while this evening, Halling rails to fence in Oats up at Bars

Aug 1st Plowing Tobacco in fresh ground to day & Hilling up Fenced in Oats Stacks this morning Plowing Tobacco before dining door & mine On Branch, very dry Sun very Hot indeed Martin had my Cart & steers to hall rails

1873 Aug 2nd Plowed Tobacco Cut Hay & Hauled Banks & Lovelace here to day it up etc etc Hot day Banks & Lovelace here to day Banks & Lovelace here

3rd I went to Sundy School to day but few there to day

4. Plowing Tobacco Cutting Hay I went to Mr Robt Harris s to See Mrs Martha Mustain who is there pretty Shower of Rain to day --

4th. Plowing Tobacco I went after Lowry & he came & drove my waggon to Lynchg

5th Started Tuesday about 11 or 12 Oclock & got back Friday morning Kit has been Complaining Went with Lowry up to Jno Lains Tuesday & Wednesday he went to Mr Hubbards worked in Tobacco some fenced some & beet Some spples I got back friday night

6.7 8 Clear Hot dry weather

9th getting up apples Hot & dry.

10 - As all the Scholars or the most of them is gone to the C[e]lebration at Mount Pleasant yesterday 8th. there was nobody hardly yesterday they will Come on to the Baptizing at Edgehill to day I Concluded not being well to stay athome Fine Shower of Rain this evening

11th Plowing my Tobacco in Lot & Hauling out Manure & Plowing Turnip Patch & Shelling Corn to go to mill Clear & Hot.

12 Milton gone to Mill Millers 3 Bus Corn for me 3 Bushels for Kit & 2 Bushel for Sarah & Milton Meal & 1½ Bus. wheat for me to eat I am going to the Mill Myself Finished Plowing Tobacco this evening

13th. Rained this day a little nearly ½ the day Toping & Hilling up my lot Tobacco took Honey & fixing that this morning,

14 Kit at work on Cart Body for Martin whichwhich he throwed down& broke Fair this morning rained but little last night

15 Kit Martin & Sarah till 9 Oclock Cutting up Coal wood Martin for Kit fixing Cart body
