and bad weather. A man walking along the road, and
he saw a hat on the ground, which he went to pick up,
but a voice from underneath told him not to touch it, as
the owner was below. So he wanted to help him out, but
he said No, I have a horse underneath me. This story
will give you an idea of our bad roads. I hope when
we have been settled a bit, to join a party for ten days
shooting ducks etc. etc. If so we shall travel west as far as
Lake Huron, and camp at night in the woods. Uncle will
not join the party, he says it would be too much for him.
We shall have fine times of it. The evenings are delightfully
cool and pleasant, the days are still very hot. I
must now say good bye. Uncle and Aunt and Cousins
are all very well at present. Aunt and Harry have been poorly.
They have had diarrhea. People are subject to it in the
summer hot weather. Please give my best and kindest love
to Father, Cecilia, and Kate, and Charlie, and accept the
same yourself. Remember me to all enquiring friends, and
believe me ever dear Mother, Your very affectionate Son Jack.
I never was in better health in my life, I hope you
are all the same. Your letter was very interesting.
Stroud Journal July 31st and Punch is to hand, any
paper is most acceptable.
