Dr J A Kennicott
Dear Sir
Your valued favor where will in due couse of mail for which please accept my thanks. - I owe you an apology for my delay in writting but due you for the treese sent Mr Bartlett and myself. - I [recd?] those you sent, put them in the cellar on [rect?] and next day [huled?] them in, the prep of earth was frozen though but I think they will come out safe in the spring. Your idea of [illegible] the [front?] [slope?] of the bluff with trees corresponed with my own suggeswtions. I shall addopt it I am surpized that you have no demand for [American Chsnut?] trees, by they are not [illegible] to this section at least and do will be after a few [winters?] protection. If the Spanish Chsnut is not hardy I do not want them, altho' our climate is milder than your we somtims have the Thermometer down to 18 @ 20 degres blow [0?]
Your rspctfully John L Griswold
