100/24[64?] 2458 31st January December
respecting erection of Buildings at Port Denison.

No 60/43 Tenders call'd for A. W. W

Colonial Architects Office Brisbane, 31 December 1860

[Text Left Side:]

61/1.D.

The Council deem it undesirable to accept the Tender submitted to them and advise that Tenders should be called for, in the usual way, stating the price at which contractors are willing to erect the buildings if the materials are conveyed to Port Denison at the expense of the Govt., and if the contractor conveys his own materials; the tenders to be sent in at a short date. The Council also advise that Tenders should be called for, for a vessel to carry stones [in?] to Port Denison.

John [Bramston?] Clerk of Council 11/1/61

Council [illegible]

[J.F.B?]

I think tenders shd. be advertised for, and the tenderers shd take their own materials in to Port Denison; - w. w. [?] [?] [?] The Principal Under Secretary

House business; House for Habor Master and Custom House Officer, containing three Rooms and Kitchen; House for the officers of Police similar to the last mentioned, and Two Cottages, one for the Boatmen, and one for the orderlies, of one room each with Kitchen.

[?] House- 300
Two Houses for Officers- 300
Two cottages for men - 200
Store - 140
4. I herewith enclose Mr. [Fitzalan's ?] in which he proposes to complete the whole work, if erected of slabs and the materials procured on the spot, exclusive of freight and cartage at Brisbane and Port.

Port Denison for ₤925, or, inclusive of freight to for ₤1000, or, if he be allowed to use Pine instead of Hardwood, and [?] the additions proposed by Mr. [Dalrymple?]/ of whihc I am at present totally ignorant, for the sum of ₤1050.

5. It would appear [?] inexpedient for the Government to provide horses or bullocks for the use of contractors, in consequence of accidents and loses likely to occur, and I should deem it very injudicious to substitute pine for hardwood, when excellent slabs can be obtained on the spot.

b. The [S?] proposed are [unexceptionable?], but should Mr [ Fitzalan's?] tender
