John McHany died last July 1845.
this year year [sic] is another sort worse
than 1838 because the draught is so
much more extensive, & no oats hardly

30. Some showers around us but none here
wind has been from NW more or less
for a week or 10 days & very drying
Corn all vegetables are drying. Serious times,
Treading wheat and grubbing on branches
never was so bad a prospect for corn
It has now sold for five dollars barrel
People very silkly about Leesville &
in Charlotte. Colley [Colby?] Bradley died last July
Aug. 1st. Rained & hailed about 4 o'clock
in the evening and a liittle shower about
12 o'clock last night or rather this
morning about 2 o'clock - the hardest rain
I ever heard fall but one, 1836.
