GW#3 - p28 (26)Geek Glossary ABACUS: an instrument for doing or teaching arithmetic. On this are drawn lines; a counter on the lowest line is one; one the next, ten; on the third, a hundred, etc. On the spaces, counters denote half the number of the line above. ACARIDA: a division of Arachnida, including the mites, ticks, and water mites. ACCORDION: a musical instrument with keys, metal reeds, and a bellows which is alternately pulled out and pressed together between the hands of the player to force air through the reeds and thus produce tones. ACIPENSER: a genus of cartilaginous ganoid fishes, distinguished by the bony scales or plates arranged at intervals along the body in five longitudinal rows. The gills are free, the snout and conical, and the mouth retractile, toothless, and projecting from the under surface of the head. This genus includes the STURGEON.
