In this case a deposition was not taken - the I[...] Comm of the C. Guard not feeling himself authorysed by the M.S. Act 1854 to take such deposition. I will therefore thank you to inform me with reference to the 445 Sect of the Act whether he has such power or with reference to 448 Sectn whether a declaration can be taken only by a Receiver or by a Justice. And also as no deposition was taken whether one should be charged for of course all expenses incurred will be charged and I presume the 3 guineas I am to charge is under the sanction of the last paragraph of the Table of Fees at page 105.

Sir,
With reference to the Receiver of Wreck Report Book with which I have been furnished arranged in accordance with Form Wa4 of the printed instructions, I [...] to acquaint you that in consequence of the imperfect returns made to me of wreck in the district which left me almost without means of filling the particulars required into columns as far as column 9 inclusive - I have had some forms printed condensing the information into fewer columns and sent them to the different C. Guard Stations, with a request that they may be filled up and sent to me as wreck may happen to be driven ashore, of which I send you one annexed, and of which I trust you will approve. J.S. J.M.
