Thomas B. Thayer Esq. Salem, Mass.
Dear Sir,
Your favor of 3d. inst. is recd., and in reply would say, we understood you to say you desired small plants, and they were furnished you and charged at the lowest figure viz., $1.00 each or $2.00 for both.
If however you are dissatisfied we can exchange them for anything you may wish which costs the same.
Respectfully James W. Lovering Supt. J.E.C.

Dear Sir
Your favor of 3d. inst. enclosing order for Top dressing your Lot @ $3.00 is recd. We do not think we can afford to do this at a less price than $4.00 as the price we charge is only sufficient to cover the cost of labor and material. Also, as other parties are paying $4.00 for lots of the same size as yours, we do not think it would be just to do your work at a less price than they pay.
Respectfully James W. Lovering Supt. J.E.C.
