Revd A. St. John Chambre Newark N.J.

Dear Sir,

The order of for interment of a child in Mt Auburn, signed by you, gives me the means & for the first time of writing you to correct ^the record of an interment of child made in same lot. As the record was deficient in two particulars, and as the child's body appears to have come from Newark N.J. I have concluded it ^too must have been your child, to a sufficient extent to ask these two questions - 1st if it was your child, and the name (if any): 2d the date of its stillbirth. I believe it is the only deficiency in our record for that year, and I did not have your address, or I should have corrected it.

Your early reply will oblige.

Yours resp.y

Your request has been attended to, and I am instructed by the Committee on Lots to notify you that this Corporation will contract to keep said lot (no. 126, Willow Ave) in perpetual repair for the sum of $300 three hundred dollars, provided it is first put in complete order.

Very resp.y yours

Capt. D.L. Winsor

Dear Sir,

I wish to see the bequests that have been made for the care of lots paid in as fast as is practicable: I remember that the bequest of Sophie Mumford, late prop.r of lot no 126 Willow Ave was not paid in on account of a clause ie.

Your report which is as follows: - [1. ans.?] "The centre posts are loose, the ground requires new grading, and monument [ought?] to be raised 8 or 10 inches."

So the Committee on Lots accepted her $300, "provided the lot be first put in complete order."

The last I heard of the matter, her Exor, Jeremy Drake, Cashr of the Freeman's Bank was arranging the repairs with you.

Will you please inform me upon this tomorrow.

Truly yours

A.J. Coolidge Sec.y

Boston,

Geo. H. Loring Esqr

Dear Sir,

I return you a new deed of your lot in Mount Auburn - no. 3336 - in place of the old one returned me on account of erroneous description.

The Treasurer suggests that he never recd the $1. for the deed, which you can enclose him by mail. (Geo. Wm Bond, Treasr 167 Congress St.)

I perceive that the old deed did not contain the Internal Rev. Stamp of 50 cts, which is required on all instruments after June 1. 1863 to render them valid.

You had better put one upon the new deed & cancel it. -

Yours respy

Jeremy Drake Esqr

Dear Sir,

I am informed by our Superinendent that the repairs required to be made upon the lot of the late Mrs Mumford (no 126 Willow Ave) before the Corporation would assume the contract for perpetual repair, were overlooked by him in the hurry of business last fall, although he had your order therefore.

It has occurred to me that the Corporation can as well receive the $300 and put it upon interest, subject to the completion of the repairs, which can be done in the Spring. If this is satisfactory to you, I will make out the document for it when you say so. Then there will be an ample fund at the head of 1864 to pay the bills of that year, & probably a surplus. --

Yours truly

A.J. Coolidge Sec.y

Capt. D.L. Winsor, Supt

Dear Sir,

William Dehon Esq, the proprietor of the large lot no. 2337 between Pyrola & Bellwort Paths wishes to take and pay for the lot on the north side of Pyrola Path, opposite to his lot, and situated between lots 218 & 3279, the latter belonging to Edwin O. Tufts. - He wishes it for a friend. I think you said it was engaged to some one else - but if there has been no bargain which can be considered as a sale, Mr D. would seem to have the prior claim, as he is ready to pay for it.

Will you please see to the enclosed internment order - common grave - funeral in Chapel at 12 M. Friday. -

Yours truly

Jeremy Drake Esq

Dear Sir,

I have conferred with the Committee on Lots about the matter inquired about, and they are willing to accept the $300 and allow you to pay the bill of $30 as estimated by the Supt for the present repair of the lot. - So I will be ready at any time to attend to the execution of the papers which I herewith send for your signature.

The money will be payable to the Treasurer, - Geo. Wm Bond, 167 Congress St. --

Yours truly

A.J. Coolidge Sec.y

I send the supt's reports upon lot 203 owned by heirs of Benj. Fiske, and of 497, by heirs of Israel Lombard, in both of which cases the parties wish the estimate of Comeeon Lots for contracts for perpetual repair. -

Mr Lombard left $300 by his will for the repair of his lot, but did not explain perpetual repair: but the Trustees of his estate desire the guaranty.

Benj. Lombard Esq

Dear Sir,

Yours of 28th ult. was recd. I enclose you the deed of your lot. We have a receipt book for deeds, but, your acknowledgement of its reception on a single line can be attached to it.

The papers ^(receipt of bills) loaned this Corporation by individual proprietors were all returned in August 1864, and I have no doubt I dealt with yours as with the rest, for I knew your address: but I cannot, this moment lay my hand upon the list which I was careful to preserve of those to whom sent, with dates.

I am not aware whether any bill against you for last year is in the hands of the Treasr -- but I will send this to him, & request him to forward the bill with it, if there is one.

Respy yours

A.J. Coolidge Sec.y

There is $1.00 due to the Treasr for the deed

Erasmus M. Dean Esq Hartford Conn.

Dear Sir,

Mrs Sophie Mumford left in a codicil to her will a writing which in its true & legal effect appears to make you the residuary devisee of her lot in the Cemetery, no. 126. We do not however change the title, except at the request of the person laying such claim: and it is the rule with the Corporation, after making a record of the devise, to annex a certificate thereof to the ^original deed. If Mr Drake has even sent that paper to you, if you will forward it, with $2, the fee for record, & certifying, and entry of name, I will return the paper to you completed. I have seen the original will here, and shall not need a copy.

Your early reply will be in time [to?] enter your name on the new catalogue about [indecipherable].

Resp.y yours

A.J. Coolidge
