W. F. Primrose, Esq., Sec. Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.

Dear Sir:-

Your note of inst. is received. The tombs referred to in our annual report are the single compartment tombs with a door above ground where several bodies are placed in this single compartment, in distinction to those in which each body is placed in a separate sealed compartment.

Brick graves and underground tombs being covered with earth are not objected to, and the present rule in this cemetery is, that all tombs that may be built with a door above ground are required to be so constructed that each body is placed in a separate compartment, which is hermetically sealed at the time of the interment. The box tombs, as they are called having only one door between the decaying remains and the outer air, give off odors, and are not considered by health authorities to be proper places for the deposit of the dead.

Respectfully yours,

Supt.

Wm H Bordman Esq

Dear Sir,

I find that the several deeds of lots 2158, 2159 & 2160 in Mt Auburn to yourself, Mr Bates & Mr Rice were dated Decr 10, 1856, - more than two years after the death of Mr Rice. Mr Henry G. Pine of Baltimore, the son, is evidently the proprietor of lot 2160. Before examining dates, I had supposed the father was the proprietor.

I find that the deeds have been delivered by the Treasr, as they are erased from a list of deeds remaining in his hands. If you do not find them among your papers, I will ascertain who receipted for them.

I enclose our usual blank form for the representation of the Bates Lot. If his Bates' lot goes to more than one heir, this is the proper form. You will know from the will, if he left one. -

If you find the facts about decease of Arthur H Otis, please return the paper to me. --

Very resp.y yours

A.J. Coolidge Sec.y

Boston,

Henry Baldwin Esq

Dear Sir,

I wish to complete the deeds of the three lots in Mt Auburn to be carved out of no. 2326 -- to your father, Mr Hollis, & Mr Fuller. Presuming that they would prefer consecutive numbers, I propose to give the numbers 3034, 3035 & 3036. If there is any objection to this by reason of cutting the old number on the granite, or for any other cases, please inform me at once.

I think probably this has not been done, as I suggested that we should have to give you new numbers.

Yours truly

A.J. Coolidge

Daniel Parkman, as the parties named in the will. --

From the foregoing, you therefore perceive that your deed gives no title to the lot. I send you a transfer, which, as I understand the facts, when executed, will straighten the matter.

I have been at so much trouble in the matter because I could not inform you without investigating the facts, and I knew you would wish the purchaser to have a valid title. I have said nothing to Gardner about it, and, I presume he knows nothing about, and he needs to know nothing. We can substitute the new deed for the one which you gave him. To save expense of stamp, I have transferred the stamp from the old to the new deed. -- Please get it executed (your wife's acknowledgement will do, and save expense of coin -- in Baltimore) and destroy the old deed, which I send you. -- As a partial compensation for my trouble in the matter, you may, if you please, send me $3.00, as I have been to the Probate office, ransacked the records, copied one will & show [minutes?] of another, drawn transfer, advised you & so.

I sent for Gardner & made him execute a new deed, and that is all we need of him, but it was as I said, before I ascertained about the title.

Yours truly

A. J. Coolidge, Sec.y

After the return of the transfer we can cut off the first, & annex that to the original deed.

Josiah O. Stearns Esq Elizabeth City, N.J.

Dear Sir,

Three or four weeks since, I sent you some blank orders for interments of Obed & Mary A. Stearns & for their removal to your lot, which, although I enclosed with a note from our Supt to you, I requested should be returned me at this office and not to Mt Auburn, as it is my duty to make the record of interments. I also requested you to fill the blanks in the order for the interment of Mary A. Stearns -- viz. of late residence-- and date of death. She is reported to us as having died at Corning, N.Y. ^aged 31 years. Please reply to me. -- What was her residence at the time of her death, and what was the date of her death? If you had noticed my re-- quest particularly, and not returned my papers to the Cemetery, you would have been saved the trouble of my writing you again. If you can ^not give these answers, please obtain them for me, or direct me to one who can.

Yours respectfully

A.J. Coolidge

Walter Bender Esq Baltimore Md.

Dear Sir,

The accompanying paper came back to us from your sister in New York signed only by her husband. There should if possible, be the signatures of a majority of the heirs. Please add your signature, and, if you know where your sister in Washington ^Mrs. McDermott is, get hers also, and return the petition to me.

It is several years since I began to look for the heirs of Jacob Bender, and I trust they are at last to stand upon our files, and be known here as the parties in interest. Mr Mears has kindly lent me assistance. As we are about to send a new catalogue to press, your immediate attention will much oblige us.

Respectfully yours

A.J. Coolidge, Secretary

Henry Homer Esq

Dear Sir,

I am directed by the Committee on Lots to inform you that the Corporation will contract for the perpetual repair of your lot, ^no. 1669) (you first having a brick drain put in to carry off the superfluous water to rear of next tier of lots) for the sum of four hundred dollars.

When notified by you of your acceptance of the terms proposed, I will prepare the necessary papers.

Yours very Resp.y

A.J. Coolidge Sec.y
