1854 Friday 11th Rained a little last night & this morning it Thundered lightened & it rained more or less till 10 or 11 Oclock, ground wet, the prettiest rain we have had this Summer this evening after Dinner we went in the woods to Sawing & getting shingles - Mr Wyatt getting,- Sandy Cutting down another

12th Mr Wyatt getting shingles Fed & Henry sawing Sandy still Cutting shingles trees Jordan Plowing up Turnip Patch & going to Sew to day as soon as he gets ready

14 Rained Friday 11 & Saturday night finely, this morning we are fanning Out wheat Drying fruit worming Tobacco Plowing up Rye Lot etc Henry gone to E. G Lewis’s to Raise Barn — clear & Hot

15 Sent Fed to Farris Mill 12 Bus. wheat for flour, & got it all fine Rain this evening Henry getting Old shingles Balance gathered Queen apples & then went to work in Tobacco in corn field Mr Wyatt getting shingles in wood, Jordan & Sandy finished fallowing lot for Rye

16 Fed Toping Tobacco generally Henry getting shingles finished working Tobacco in Corn field working on Road this evening across mountain Nannie gone to Mrs Hunts — I went to Miss Sarah McCullocks Fallowing up stubble field owens clearingfor what

21 Augt went to Court. & to see old Bro Stone, who is very low Toping worming & succoring Tobacco

22 & finished that worming Do again Henry & Mr Wyatt getting shingles

23 Mr Wyatt went to Blanks to Raise Barn

24 - Harrowing in & Sewing Rye in lot By Granary, Sawing yesterday again

3 May 1856 Sent to Mill 3 Turns Corn for meal Henry Halling wood & halling out manure Hilling in new ground, Lowry very sick

3rd Clem & Pal & Fanny & Jerry Smith getting better Fine weather for every thing – — Sent Sallie to Mr Moseley - got an answer from Post Master in Georgia about ED Johns Teller for money Sent him, but no Recd yet Last 3 or 4 shoats from spaying & another Black Sow missing 2 days may be she is Dead Too, – – – – – Doct Thompson came again to see Lowry very sick making 9 or 10 times in all this time or spring

4 My wife & Jerry went to Mr Jno Hunts Jacob went to Greenfield Rained a little

5. Planted Cotton Irish Potatoes etc & then halled Out manure Doct Thompson came this morning - to see Lowry - who is getting better Striped Tobacco in morning

6th Raining this morning striping Tobacco from middle Barn – – –

7th Rained last night Striping Tobacco this morning Turned Steers & Fillmore in Pasture Fed making Jacob a pair of shoes Jordan Complaining balance getting better

8th Finished striping old prize House & done Striping all but House back of Garden & fresh ground barn & mountain Spring Barn - quite Cool Halling Out manure Hilling & want to plant cabbage plants this evening or tomorrow

9th Halled out manure halled wood & Hilled in new ground, changeable weath I went to Miss S. McCullocks & Mr Faris but done nothing

10 Will Finish Halling new ground this evening & then will Plant Collard Plants in Garden

1856 Novr 6th I went to Republican Grove, to See Mr Prindle, alse & Kitty grubbing Jerry went to Miss Sarah McCullocks Henry helping Mr. Wyatt Jacob & Balance pulling off corn by Bars

7th Moving & fixing Corn Jordan plowing Fed & Sandy Shoe Making, Halling up & shucking corn plowing up cotton Patch Henry & Mr. Wyatt finishing Tobacco Barn this evening - etc Picked out Cotton to day

8th Shucking & housing Corn Sewing wheat in Cotton Patch & by Lilas House etc Fed & Sandy Shoemaking Rainy a little Turned cool in evening etc etc

9th went to Fannies & she came here Jacob went to Riceville

10 Sent Henry to Mill 2½ B. W 4 Bus Corn & 1 Log for flooring for Porch Jordan & Lowry Plowing Fed & sandy Shoemaking Balance pulling off Corn fine day clear — fine weather

11th Sewing Wheat & getting up Corn

12th Sewing wheat & getting up Corn fine weather about this time

13th Sewing wheat putting up Greens & then for getting up Corn etc etc Finished sewing wheat sewed 32½ Bus. Henry gone to yates mill with Log for sheeti =ng 4 Bus Corn for meal 1 Bushel wheat F for fine weather = Halling corn this evening

14th Finished sewing wheat I went to Fannies sold Top to JD Hunt for $85 due now to be pd by or before X Halling up & shucking out corn fine weather. Henry Jointing shingles

1857 March 27th Halling leaves out of new ground Raking etc, sewing Oats. Halled up another stack Oats, & treading them Out this evening, Mr Wyatt laying upper floor of Porch Buck helping him little sow has Pigs. we have 11 Lambs fine weather about this time,-

28th Sewing Oats Halling Rails around corn field fence Raking & cleaning up new ground Mr Wyatt quit last night worked 5 day this week 29th we went to Edge Hill to Hear RoachMr Raking & halling Out leaves at new ground Sewing Oats cloudy & like for Rain or snow Wyatt Came to work again this morning Laying floor upper of Porch, Sewing flat Land in Oats & finished sewing

31st Plowing Corn Land, Sent to Yates Mill for meal, Halling up Logs at new ground for Barn & Raking Expect to Bush Oats with Colts & Pompy a little this evening. cloudy & like for rain, Fire put out in our mountain field about 11 or 12 Oclock to day & burnt up about 1100 Rails for us & over a good deal of [illegible] We burnt leaves last night Plowing for Corn, cloudy & like for Rain -- whoever put out the fire is yet unknown to us

april 1st I went to Capt Clements & Miss Sarah McCullocks, fired 11 or 12 Logs heaps to day & it Rained a little, in the evening Plowing

2nd Raking in new ground & halling up Logs for Barn & putting out Log heaps. very windy last night & to day had to watch fire last night, clear & cool to day
