E.L. Childs Esq. Washington D.C.
Dear Sir,
I have just sent a line to Mr [Nahura?] Capen who is said to be in Washington, respecting the Larkin lot in Mt Auburn. Lest my note should not find him there, I will say that I have an appliciation to know the least sum the lot will be sold for (if still for sale) with the fund of $400 applied to both lots - 1806 & 1807. I think you named $500, and when I last saw you, I think you said the whole matter should be left in Mr Capen's hands.
The person inquiring, I believe, is a man of means, and will await your reply.
Very respy yours,
Thos. C. Bacon Esq.
Dear Sir,
The Committee on Lots have considered your application to know for what sum this Corporation will assume the perpetual care of your lot and tomb; and have instructed me to notify you that they are ready to contract for the same on payment of the sum of ($400) four hundred dollars.
Ready to serve you & am
Very respy. yours
A.J. Coolidge Secretary Proprs Mt Auburn

The secretary read the following letter addressed to Mr Bond, the Treasurer in behalf of this Corporation.
Lot 1806 Application of Exor for sale of lot in discharge of bequest to Corporation _
Sir
The late Thomas O Larkin of Cala by his last will, left the sum of $400. _ to the directors or managers of Mt Auburn Cemetery the interest of which to be applied to the care and protection of two lots (1806 & 1807) in Spruce avenue, belonging to himself & Otis Wright of Neponset.
The remains of Mr Larkin are interred in Lone Mount Cemetery, San Francisco, and his family are permanently settled in Cala and the lot in Mt Auburn (No 1806, _ 360 ft) will never be of any use to them. It was their suggestion therefore, when I was in San Fro last spring, that the lot be sold and the proceeds devoted to the discharge of the bequest. It is occurred to me, however, that the corporation might be disposed to become the purchaser, or receive the lot in offset of the legacy. The two lots are enclosed in one common fence, and would require a division fence to separate them, but No 1806 is entirely unoccupied, and Mr Wright has no objection to a sale.
I address you in consequence of being one of the executors named in the will of Mr Larkin, & guardian of his minor children
Respfly [sic] E. L. Childs.
