1859 April 16th Finished planting corn to day, made Box for cellar fire place & Mr Chummy laid the Hearth, & fixed the place in setting Room, John nearly finished the chimney except pencilling the bottom, Halled 1 Load of wood, & took down^Poles- etc at chimney - John has been here at work on chimney 5¾ days,-

17th Snowing this morning like all the world Several Inches deep turned cooler

18. Went to ^court yesterday qualified as Exer of the Estate of J D Hunt Dec^d. Halling wood in morning then went to Halling & Coltering in second years ground, Tuesday 19th I went to Gran field to Mrs Pannills son W^ms Funeral Plowing & Hilling —

[2]0 Wednesday went to aspen Grove, Hilling & Coltering - fine weather at this time

21st Went Mrs Hunt to see Mr Hubbard Settle with Yates etc etc Coltering till 12 Oclock Halling out manure & Hilling all day — Nannie gone to Mrs Fitzgeralds to day —

22 Coltering & Hilling till it Rained about 12 Oclock then Halling wood cutting & malling wood, Riving Tobacco sticks & clem spining. I went down to work on Road from Camp Branch to good Hope, finished about 12 oclock, Nannie got home this day, about 2 Oclock this evening

23rd Rained again last night, Sent to Mill for overseer, Halling wood & manure to day Riving Tobacco Cutting & splitting wood. Turned very cool last night & the wind blows Hard ^{& cold} I went to Cedar Forest to warrant v^s Est J D Hunt Dec^d etc had Bill shod at yates behind etc etc.

1860 Sept 1st I Returned from Lynchg & Hollins Institute & left Sallie at School wy went there & returned wednesday night & come home thursday Beet some applies etc

2nd Henry at work on yard & shiller balance cutting. Mrs Hunt started for Mr Browns this morning — I went to aspen Grove settled with Cothran, lost one Hog there

3rd went to New Bethel to meeting been going nearly 2 weeks Jacob & Mr Moses with a great many others professed

3rd Rained this morning making Brooms & Picking wool etc began to over Tobacco

4th Toping & worming succoring Tobacco cloudy, Sent Henry over to old Place to borrow their Fan to Fann out our ^wheat

5. Finished Toping & worming & succoring Tobacco I sent for the Fan at old place to day I went to see Mr Grastys creditors & aspen Grove to day & Collected only of one man McHaney Hubbards & Dawson etc etc

6 Finished pulling fresh ground fodder worming Tobacco Bro^t home still etc Halled Rocks to set it up, suned second rate Tobacco got down some to prize Faned out some wheat this morning & sent ½ Bb^l new crop here to mill

7th Sent 2½ more & after that sent yesterday Prizing Tobacco to day.

8th Prizing Tobacco in morning Tying up Blade fodder & Pulled some in far field to day shacked up all pulled down we went to S S Meeting to day — Sent Doct Jenning C. Thompson for Bens child Betsy to day 1st time - 9th to see Betsy again to day — Mrs Hunt come back from Mr Browns Saturday & staid till Tuesday

23rd Sewing wheat Pulling corn putting up apples & Irish Potatoes etc, Halling up 4 Loads out of upper part of Lot & shucked last night - warm weather ————

24 Bob went down to Mrs Hunt bro^t her Loom & Bureau & got some hops Sewing wheat next to Cap^t whiteheads choping around stumps where we sewed wheat in fresh ground & cutting down & Pilling stacks - I went to Barksdale Hubbards & Dawsons & aspen Grove collected for Grasty - - etc - swapted Horses with John shields to day gave him Charly & Lucy for his Gray Horse John & $5 to Book [Boot]

25. went to W^m H Wallers for Grasty - Finished sewing wheat next to Whiteheads fixed Gate pulling Corn & Halling wood.

26. went to James McHaney|Ja^s W McHanys]] for Grasty. pulling & Halling corn & stacks out of Lot. began to Plow & shuck corn in evening - I went to old Place for Jennings

27th Court Martial held here to day, my wife & Mrs Hunt gone to Fannies & Kates Sewing wheat in Lot Shucked out corn putting stacks in stable loft - & housing corn,- fine weather —

28th my wife came home I went to Strait Stone Pray meeting & to Plantation

29th Mr Cothran Sent the waggon up & I am this morning cleaning out stables, getting pieces for chimney Bob is cutting wood sent Jerry down after Bet & a p^s cloth to Miss Neals to weave, sewing & Harrowing in wheat in upper part of Lot - to day fixing to start to Lynchg in evening. Raining some -

30. 31 1 Novr 2nd D^o working on chimneys Daubing Houses Cutting etc raining all the time this week.

Decr 17. 1860 Corn Oats etc gone to day after corn Mr Hubbards Milly had a cow calf last night all my Shoats up 2 Boars, gone Bot 236 lbs Pork of Allen Scruggs @ $8½ pr 100 lbs.

18th Went down to aspen Grove, to see Hester sick all day to day & left her sick, but I thought about night she was a little easier, made arrangements to Kill 11 Hogs down there, leave one, making arrangements to Kill 2 Here, & may be some I may buy tomorrow, Halled & Cut & Malled wood to day,- cloudy & like for falling weather, to night,-

19th. Killed our 2 Piggs here to day & Bot Two out of drove for us & Killed them, Henry went to mill this morning to Whiteheads carr^d 1 Turn Corn 1 Turn wheat for negroes here & carried 1 Bus. wheat for Henry & Malissa, & 1 Bushel wheat for Ben promised him for faithful work with machine in fall when hired to me he has gone down to aspen grove to Kill 11 Hogs there & get overseer have his but since night it has set in to raining & we may not Kill there in morning Jerry came here this morning & let him have some ^sole leather for his shoes Hester has got well I heard this morning bot of Mr Williams my 2 hogs & 8 for Mr Hunts plantation,-

20th. I went to Plantation & fixed every thing there & 21st I went to CH.- Cut & Halled wood cleaned out Hog pen & in evening halled leaves

22 Returned from CH. Halling & cutting wood Bob here to day - -

1860 Decr 23rd I went to Strait Stone Prayer Meeting very white or Black met, day very good for time of the year

24th Cutting wood for Plant Bed, Halling fire wood in the evening & Halled up 1 stack fodder to use in stable & 1 Load Shucks,

25th Snowed a little last night, alice sick with sore throat, went to old place give some Lard for them there & sent them a dram & this morning gave them some cider & got some for Mrs Hunt, etc etc fine day —

26th I went to Mrs Colemans to see Alice pd Mrs Coleman Balance of money got from CH. for her went to Welden Holders. Mr Hubbards & Mrs Hunts Place did not rent it to Waller, me & Mr Hubbard viewed the Land of Mrs Hunts he wants to buy some 40. or 50 acres which I agreed he might have at $12 pr acre - then I came home fine day

27 - went to chalk Level to hiring - cold day & fair —

28. went to Mount Airy no hiring cold fair day —— Mr Chumney my Overseer moved here to day Henry move him & I am to give him 3/-

29th. Halling Leaves Cutting & malled at Plant Bed, - to burn. it & at 12 Oclock we will get wood Hired Dan^l R Hunts boy John to Holder again $27½ for next year, Snowing again to night. Rented to Susan Roark the place where Roby lived this year of JD Hunts Est. for $15.00^{for 1861}

30 Snowed last night a little & to day snowed & Rained nearly all day in fact raining all^{the time}

31st Snowed in the night & snowing yet 9 or 10 Oclock Snow about 4 or 5 Inches Deep —
