my baptism –
& again of my being her Bridesmaid she recounted the
whole to C & V. to their infinite
amusement. my only objection to
going to her then was that she so
thoroughly spoiled them at Stawell
House – but alas ! poor dear she
has now long been incapable of
enjoying life in any respect –
Her state fills me with deep sorrow
it is a living death – If you were
near her – you could do nothing
I assure you I feel such intense pity
for that lonely life that I would go to
Richmond much as I dislike the place when my boys are both gone
if I could feel that it would in
any degree soothe her last days – but
I believe her to be in a state in which
all is indifferent beyond her bodily
needs – and these are cared for
most thoroughly . I think you will like
to hear all – but I write confidentially
