LIGHT-HOUSE BOARD

Washington

File No. 1053

20 Feb'y, '06

Hon. J.M. Gearin, U.S.S.,

U.S. Senate.

Sir:

Referring again to your letter of 24 Jan'y, '06, enclosing one dated 18 Jan'y, '06, from Mr. D.J. Maher, of Portland, Oregon, asking the status of a Government light-house district which has been once used, but is now abandoned", and also stating that "the abandoned light-house site to which I refer is at Yaquina Bay, Oregon", the Board has the honor to state that the lighthouse site in question was temporarily transferred to the War Department by the Treasury Department in 1889, for use in connection with the improvement of the entrance to Yaquina Bay, when it passed out of the jurisdiction of the Lightouse Board.

Respectfully,

[signature]

Lieut. Col., Corps of Engineers, U.S.A.,

Engineer Secretary
