I have received the enclosed Letter
from Mr William Smith the Owner of the Sloop
"William" of your Port which was wrecked at Spurn
Point on the 25th Ulto. Have the goodness to inform him
that I cannot act as his agent in the sale of the
materials saved. _ He or some one else, should have
remained and sold them, - But as such was not
the case, he had better write to Mr Willis, master of
the Life Boat Spurn to sell them for him

All Goods brought into the United
Kingdom are deemed to be foreign unless proved to be British.
British returned Goods are admitted free by Bill of Store
under section 65 of the C C 1853 (16 & 17 Vc 107)._ But if British
Goods change hands in a foreign country they are subject
to the like duties to which foreign Goods are liable. ----
By the 499th Section of the M S Act (17 & 18 V. 104) _ All wreck, being
foreign Goods, is liable to duty - and if any question arises
as to origin, they are to be deemed the produce of such
country as Commissioners of Customs - may - upon investigation
determine. The Anchors are so much corroded that
my Inspector of the River is unable to say whether they
are of British or of Foreign manufacture, consequently,
by the rule above quoted they must be deemed to
be foreign unless the Coms of Customs allow them
to be passed free as British. The pieces of Anchors have
to be broken off to reduce them to Old Iron.
