Sir, 1st June 1858.
With reference to my letter of the
12th March last acquainting you that a quantity of Tallow
picked up on the sea shore by
John Smith
Leonard Barker and
Mathew Willisen
whichi ought to have been delivered to a Receiver
of Wreck had been sold by them to Mr William
Smith of Brandes Burton for the sum of £ 13 . 6 . --
and that Mr Smith had resold the same to
Mr Yates a Tallow Chandler at Beverley for
£15 " 15 . 0 -- also that Mr Yates had deposited with
me the sum last named. __ I beg to acquaint you
as stated in my letters to Solicitor of Customs, for your
information - of the 28th March last, and 24th Ulto, -
that the same sum of £13 " 6 . 0 has been paid to me
by the three men named. _ I therefore - as
Mr Yates' transaction in the matter was in all
respects perfectly fair and legitimate _ request your
directions to repay him the sum of £15 " 15 " 0 so
deposited with me. JS.

The price of Timber herein referred
to, - picked up in the waters of the Black Sea, near
Eupatoria, was brought to this Port in the Vessel "Ivy Green"
and reported as so picked up -- consequently - under the
s. d.
Duties Act, it is liable to the import duty of 3/5 ---
But Mr Preston, - on the part of the Master of
the "Ivy Green", objects to Mr Saxelbye, - the Receiver of
Wreck for the Humber having any claim thereto
