Agreebly to the direction of the
Commissioners of Her Majesty's
Customs. conveyed in their General
Order No 179 herewith I beg to forward
for your consideration the claim for
Travelling expenses and subsistence
allowance of Mr E B Smith, Landing
Waiter in this Department
from the 15th to the 19th April last,both days
inclusive in assessing the duty due
to the Crown on the various articles
of Wreck goods then lying at different
places on the Coast in the Bridlington
district between Flamborough Head
and the Spurn Point preparatory
to a general sale of the same
amounting to Six pounds Twelve
Shillings and Ten pence and
beg to add that expenses incurred
have been computed according
to usual rate of allowances in
similar cases and was absolutely
necessary for the good of the Service.

of opinion the expense
should not be borne by
this Deparment but by the
Customs. The Receiver should
apply to the Commissioner
for payment accordingly
