Dwight May 1st 1858

Dear Sir

The trees you sent came
safe to hand and were all right
these rose bushes were only half
the number that I sent for you
did not say for what reason
the others were not sent

I have felt more anxious to get
the Prarie Rose than any other
variety but can get it probably
in the fall either of you or else where
we are building up a villiage here
and for miles are around new home
are springing up on the prariess
which will make a market for a large
number of trees I shall be glad to
make some effort to introduce
your trees to the notice of the planting
community or your trees I think
are worth more on our soil than
trees [illegible] in eastern nurseries
whose agents are acting in selling
their trees; the Gophers or Prarie Moles
are cuting off the roots of my trees is
there any way that I can destroy them
