Dear Sir
In reply to yours of a few dayssense, I have the honor as stah, that I should have presented the inscriptions on the monument to Gen. Carroll, during my continuance in office - but for an understanding with the family of the decd that it was deserved that Genl. Pillow, his relative & at one time member of his military family should prepare them. They were therefore first found for his return & I shall request his immediate attention to the subject & (furnish?) them to the architect-
With sentiments of respect I have the honor to be your obt. Serv.
