I will try here to summarize and co-ordinate
my impressions derived from first hundred pages
of Corbett.
Until the year 1600, and somewhat later,
the military navies of the Medr were galleys.
Somewhere in the first decade of 17th century
an English adventurer, named Ward, ran away
with a ship from the Eng Channel and made
his way to Tunis where he entered the
service of the Beij useing his sailing vessel
and others taken by her as corsairs. From
this he pirsuing the Barbary corsairs ceased
to be galleys and became broadside sailing ships
About the same time the same lesson was
taight Algiers by one Daniger.
