1837 8th 6 mo A general Conference is now holden here by the Methodists, about 130 Methodist Ministers are now here holding their Meeting which draws together a great proportion of the Inhabitants. it is said their is a man now here by the name of Taylor from Boston highly celebrated for delivering lectures on Intemperance.

The Court of common Pleas was also holden this week, at which a larger manner of cases than common were variously disposed of, among which two poor fellows were condemned to the State Prison, Henry Folger & a Colored man both for taking property not their own.

9th 6 mo The State of the times are more favourable than they have heretofore been, but still a gloom hands over the community, our markets are extremely dull & heavy.

The difficulties with the Mexicans are somewhat subsided; it is said they have released the american Prisoners, and given up the Nevada they illegaly captured & appear disposed to preserve peace.

18th Yesterday & the day before, the sheep were washed. The weather is cold for the season wind is Northerly and an outside coat is comfortable. If the weather continues so cold, some of the sheep are likely to suffer with their fleeces off.
19th A beautiful day for sheep shearing, which was improved for that purpose.
20th Wind south & looks likely to rain, the sheep [???] all went down to the Pen, and the sheep were yarded a consultation was then held, and it began to rain it was concluded to turn out the shee into the great pasture.
