20th 5 mo By the Mail today, their appears to be quite a favourable change in monied affairs of the Nation. The heads of the department at Washington manifest a disposition to relieve the distress of the people. They relinquish up the demand of specie payment into the treasury for the present and have concluded to called Congress together the first 2nd day in the 9th mo. It was strongly apprehended that an insurrection would shortly take place, & lead to a civil War. But these favourable circumstances has seemed to change the aspect of things in a a very great measure, and every thing of a business concern in motion. But what is to be the fate of many hundreds, pray thousands of Merchants who have failed & lost their property & their confidence Merhants in consequence of the bad administration of the General Government. It is sorrowful to think of considering the country we live, where kind nature is so bountiful, the people make slaves of themselves!!!
