7 mo 1832 are made & making throughout the most populous places throughout the government. The fore part of this month it made its appearance in New York, which brings it so near to us that the people appear much alarmed. A general excitement has spread throughout the place. In order to do all for its prevention among us that reason & good judgement would direct. A Town meeting was held 7th 7mo 1832 where an addition of four were added to the health committee, and a committee of 30 appointed called the Committee of Vigilance who together with the Select Men & the Doctors are instructed by the town to examine all places where in their judgment [JUDGEMENT] it requires purification to be made & cause a speedy removal of the filth & to take all measures for the preservation of the health of the place that appears to them necessary.

8th 7 mo Sloop Senator, Alexander Robbinson arrived from N. York with a number of passengers. And B. Burdit from N. Bedford with some passengers direct from N. York; they were directed by the health committee to anchor in the road, according to the quarantine regulations prefixed by the health committee.

10th Health Committee has purchased the Riddell house across the Creeks to be occupied as a hospital in case it is needed.

The committee of vigilance in consequence of some unwary words between them & the Health committee the former have tacitly withdrawn themselves from the service for which they were appointed & do not act in concert with the health Committee as was expected by the town at the meeting of their appointment.
