1831 The most of last month was moderate & pleasant, but since this month came in the weather has been uncommonly boisterous & cold with high winds & storms of rain.

10th A heavy gale (10th with some ice)

12th A very heavy (11th gale at SW)

14th We hear of the disastrous effects of the late storms. Many vessels were cast away & some lives lost.

19th At a town mtg. it was voted that the select men appoint a committee to agree with the bondsmen of Uriah Gardner, late collector of taxes & submit the case to arbitration according to the proposition made by the bondsmen. Voted that the bye land of the Proprietors of Nantucket relative to taking sand from Brant Point be published in the Inquirer. Noted that the select appoint a person to put the laws in Execution against smoking tobacco in the streets.

5 mo At a town mtg. held for the purpose of choosing Representatives to the General Court
Hezekiah Barnard, Isaac Folger, David Baxter were chosen

6th 7 mo This season as far as it is advanced has been uncommonly wet, frequent rains & the weather very warm, with much fog, more like Dog days than is common so early in the season. The crops of hay were abundant, but the weather being so wet, much of it has been got in in quite bad order. All kinds of vegetation very forward & abundant.

22nd 7 mo An easterly storm with much rain.

23rd Clear Northwest wind
