From Pernambuco to Philadelphia Dec [DECEMBER] 1854

Sunday Dec 10th 1854. At 9 a.m. got under way & proceaded [PROCEEDED] to sea. At 10 A.M. discharged the Pilot. Light airs from the East & pleasant. All sail set by the wind Ends sea account.

[11th?] Dec [DECEMBER] First part light winds from the East & pleasant Standing on the port tack. At six p.m. spoke ship Elizabeth of Bath from Chinca[?] Islands for Hampton Roads. Midle light airs & pleasant. Latter part fine winds from the E,S.E. & pleasant. Set Topmast Studding sail. Exchanged signals with an American Bark bound South.

Thursday October 14 1847 This day with gentle breezes and pleasant weather. At daylight took our anchor and got underway and stood out. At 10 AM discharged our polet [PILOT] latter [LADDER]. Emploid [EMPLOYED] lashing the anchors and clearing up the deck. Choese [CHOSE] watches and boat crews.

Friday Octo [OCTOBER] 15 Me. S S With getle [GENTLE] breezes and pleasant weather steering S by E. All sail set. Employed in coiling lines and fitting boats. At 4 called all hands aft and choesed [CHOSED] watches. At 11 AM double reefed the topsails. Latter part more moderate. So ends. Latt [LATTITUDE] 39 ˓˓ 30

Saturday oct [OCTOBER] 16 With gentle breeses [BREEZES] and pleasant weather steering SSE all sail set. Employed in fitting boats and other duty. Middle part the same. Latter part strong breeses [BREEZES] steering by the wind.

Ship Marcus bound to the Pacific

Sunday Nove [NOVEMBER] 21 1847 With gentle breeses [BREEZES] and pleasant weather laying off and on at Island of Bravo [BRAVA]. At 5 PM the boats came of [OFF] with some things. Some of the men had been drinking. One of them brought of [OFF] some rum. The mate trying to get it away he clenched the mate. We then stoped [STOPPED] them and sent them forward. At 9 in the evening one of them came on deck and drew his knife and siad [SAID] he would kill some of them. He struck at some of the men with his knife and cut their close [CLOTHES] in a number of places. We then got him down and put him in irons and lashed him to the spars aft. At daylight the boat went ashore. So ends.

Monday Nove [NOVEMBER] 22 With gentle breeses [BREEZES] and pleasant weather laying off and on at the Island. One man in irons. At 2 PM the Captain come off put the man in the riggin [RIGGING] and floged [FLOGGED] him. Give him dozen. We then put him on the boat and carred [CARRIED] him ashore and left him. His name was Agustus Weleth. At sunset our boat come off with some frute [FRUIT]. We then made sail and kept her off to the SW in company with the Roman of New Bedford. Latter part the same. Steering to SW. Got some hogs & foul. So ends.

Tuesday Nov [NOVEMBER] 23 With gentle breeses [BREEZES] and pleasant weather steering S. All sail set. In company with the Roman. Employed in ships duty Brok [BROKE] out the after hold for slops. Latter fittin [FITTING] ship. At 3 PM spok [SPOKE] The R [ROMAN]. The Captin [CAPTAIN] went on board and stop to supper. At 9 came on board. So ends the 24 hours. Log [LONGITUDE] 24..30

Wednesday Nov [NOVEMBER] 24 With light winds and pleasant weather steering to the S. All sails set. Employed in ships duty fitting riggin [RIGGING]. The R [ROMAN] in company. Saw black fish.. Caught a [PORPOISE?]. At 2 PM spok [SPOKE] the Roman. The captai [CAPTAIN] come on board and stoped [STOPPED] to supper. At 9 went on board. Latter part the same. Steering S by E. So ends the 24 hours.
