our Secondary Schools, and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher
Education. The State Division of Certification awards graduates of the College
the "A" class teacher's certificate. We should state that the college has met
the requirements for accreditation only on minimum levels. Its limited financial
resources prevent it from reaching a higher level of accreditation.

Student Body

The student enrollment of the college for the fall quarter of the school
year 1953-1954 is the largest in the history of the institution. There are 182
men enrolled and 582 women, making a total of 764. Another division of the en-
rollment shows that there are 459 boarding and 305 day students.

Most of our students come from the State of North Carolina, with approx-
imately ten per cent coming from other states. Many of the students who
register from other states are really North Carolina people. In many instance
their parents have moved, sometimes temporarily, to other states to work; and
when their children finish high school, they send them back to North Carolina
for their colege work.
