For the purpose of showing readily the actual cost of the "Cemetery" the Treasurer has always charged to that account the balance of the annual Expense account, it being an expenditure for labor on the grounds, and added to the "Proprietors Fund" the gross amount of sales of lots (after deducting the payment made to the Horticultural Society) and the income arising from investments.
It, in consequence, appears that this fund is increased the last year by the sum of $4088.98, while only $2527.20 are added to the available means of the Corporation.
The amount in the Treasury, with the collections of the present months, will be adequate to meet the remaining assessments payable on the four shares in the Stark Mills.
The sum invested, when these amounts are paid, will amount to Twelve thousand two hundred dollars.
The number of lots sold during the year is forty six and the whole number sold is Six hundred thirty four.
The following statement reported by the Superintendent shows the number of Interments & the improvements made during the year & also in the seven years since the consecreation of the Cemetery, to wit;
In 1838 | In 7 years. | |
Interments | 174 | 830 |
Tombs built | 22 | 144 |
Monuments erected | 16 | 125 |
Lots turfed & otherwise ornamented | 47 |
