[in pencil] Subject: Mont. is included

PIERREPONT WISE, WOOL, 132 FEDERAL STREET,

BOSTON, Sept 15 1887.

Mr. J.W. Lovering Supt.

Dear Sir: I have received from the Treasr, for my signature, a contract for perpetual care of lot No 620. In it, I notice wherever the word "monument" appears, itiscrossed out by pen -- for instance, in the clause for "cleaning -- [dustmarks?] removing" the word, "monuments" is crossed -- but the word "headstones" left.

There has always been a small monument on the lot & I always supposed it was included in estimate -- Indeed, I feel sure it was for it would be dangerous to keep clean the headstones

and let the monument go. I feel it must be an error at the Treasurer's office. Please look into it & inform me.

Yours very truly
