Letter Richd S. Greenough Relating to "eyes" of Winthrop Statue
Newport, R. I. 23d June '74.
John T. Bradlee Esq. Dear Sir.
Having had a cast made from the face of the statue of Gov Winthrop, executed for the MtAuburn Association, and after using the same in preparing a model for a marble to be sent to Washington , I am desirous of adding the iris and pupils to the Mt Auburn statue, as

shown in the cast left this day at your office.
Since the date of the Mt Auburn Statue I have invariably treated the eyes of my busts and statues as indicated, and beg that it be understood that my sole desire in this matter is to improve the effect of my first statue, giving it that which experience has taught me it wants, perfecting
work for which I have been already remunerated.
I should be in town on Monday next, and will call at your office at 4 O'clock P.m. To learn if it will be agreeable to yourself and associates to accede to my request.
Yours very truly. Richard S. Greenough
