The Committee on Grounds herewith transmit a Communication from the Superintendent in relation to the Receiving Tomb and having given the subject careful consideration recommend the passage of the following order: -

Voted - that the Superintendent be directed to construct under the direction of the Committee on Grounds the Vestibule and two compartments of the new Receiving Tomb in accordance with plans submitted herewith, and that an Amount not exceeding Six Thousand dollars, be and hereby is appropriated to defray the expenses of the same.

To the Trustees of Mt. Auburn Cem'y. Gentlemen, In answer to your instructions of last year, I have the honor to report that after a careful examination of the plans, ground, and stone work of the New Receiving Tomb, in detail, I estimate the cost of completing the vestibule and two compartments of the same, including excavation, foundation, hauling stone, bricks, cement, labor of building, covering, and sodding, with tile floor, marble doors, and slate catacombs, at $5,950, (or say $6,000.-)

I have not included anything for an outeror maindoor to the tomb, as the cost of that would vary considerably, according to

the material employed, whether Marble, iron or Bronze. A wooden door, however, would answer all purposes for a time, till it should be convenient to replace it with one of more permanent material.

I would suggest that by employing our own men on the work (and, so far as practicable, in the intervals of other labor,) we should probably be able to do it cheaper than in any other way, and perhaps to bring it lower than the figures above named.
