SHEDD & SAWYER, Civil Engineers, BARRISTERS' HALL, NO. 7 COURT SQUARE.

Boston, May 6, 1870.

Col. Folsom

Dr. Sir:

Referring to letter addressed by our Mr. Shedd to Mr. Coolidge, April 4, 1870, proposing to do certain work for Mt. Auburn at an estimated expense of $3505 we have to add that we will do the work therein specified, so far as we now have data for it, at our regular rates, and guarantee that the cost shall not exceed $500. If boundaries of any lots have been changed more or less by inaccurate setting of curbing or in any other way, since we surveyed said lots, we of course can not be responsible for discrepancies. Some unforseen difficulties may arise, but we know of no reason why the work can not be done substantially as proposed and estimated.

According to present recollection, the shortest base lines are about 60 feet long = 3/4 in.

on scale of lithographed plan - sufficient for writing length. If insufficient space for writing angles between base lines clearly, lists can be written on margin, - each station in order of its number, with angles between other stations, visible from this, designated by their numbers.

Truly Yours, Shedd & Sawyer.

Supposed to be 425 "stations" for surveying purposes; stone [hubs?] can be set for these at an expense of not over say $200, without testing.
