To the trustees of the Mount Auburn Cemetery,

Gentlemen,

The large number of proprietors, and their frequent accession, with their varying and pressing wants at this season of the year, together with the multitude of engagements that I have made, which should be honorably met, many of them within a very brief period, renders it absolutely necessary that I should be exempt, and all the force, under and entrusted to my direction should be exempt from the operations to be prosecuted in connection with the so called well house near the gate.

I am not in the habit of asking indulgence of my employees, but I trust the trustees, under present circumstances will see the propriety and even necessity of granting my request, and cheefully, perhaps gladly exempt me and all the men entrusted to my direction, in order that I may pursue the ordinary concerns of the place; meet my engagements in good faith, leave the committee who have the above work refered too in charge independent to call in all the talent, and instrumentalities, they may wish to perfect their design.

Very respectfully your humble Servt Rufus Howe Supt
