[Caft?] D.L. Winsor Application for increase of pay

[Mount Auburn Cemetery.] -------------- [Mount Auburn,]

To the Trustees of Mt Auburn Cemetery.

Gentlemen,

Having had some unpleasant experience the past six weeks, from the almost constant importunities of the subordinate Offices, mechanics, and labourers of this institution to raise their pay for the present year; and which request I have been compelled to accede to, makes me feel. the more reluctant to ask the same thing of your "Board" in regard to myself, However! as the necessity of the request, has come about from circumstances beyond my control

I will merely add, that as the admitted value of the Paper Dollar is but 60¢. My present Salary amounts to only $900.00 pr year which will not [de?] the current expense of myself and family. When I first thought of offering my Services to the Trustees I hesitated on account of the very low salary then being paid, but I came to the conclusion to try it

presuming that If I managed these affairs {with the increase of business at the Cemetery} to their satisfaction they would be willing to increase my pay, and here I leave the matter hoping you will give my request a favourable consideration Your most Obedient Servant Daniel L, Winsor
