1871, November 4

At a Meeting of the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn, held November 4, 1871, it was Voted, that H. B. Mackintosh, Treasurer, be, and he is here authorized to sell, assign and transfer Five Thousand ($5000.-) 1882, 5/20 Reg. Bonds, as of February 25, 1862, nos 25.671, 25.670, 25.669, 25.668, 25. 667, and to appoint one or more Attorneys for that purpose.

February 24t

At a Meeting of the Committee on Grounds held at the office of the Corporation 16 Pemberton Sq. Boston February 24t, 1872, it was,

Voted, - to recommend to the Trustees the granting of a General Permit to do work in the Cemetery to John McNarmee, on his filing a Bond for $1000.- with two [secreties?] satisfactory to the President.

Voted, - to recommend that the Superintendent's salary be fixed at $2500. - for the year Ensuing, in addition to house rent, the use of horse and vehicle, and services of one man.

Voted, - to recommend that this committee be Empowered to Erect a board fence 10 f. high on W. & S. lines of the Watriss Lot, at an Expense not Exceeding $1600.-

Voted, - to report "inexpedient" with regard to the abolition of "the Bounty Pay=roll," so called.

Voted, - to recommend that a deed be Executed and delivered for the purpose of [curing?] an Erroneous description in deed of part of the Stone Meadow from the Corporation to Joseph S. Coolidge, dated July 19t, 1871, recorded with Middlesex Deeds, Lib. 1173, fols. 450, 451.

Voted, - that F.M. Safford be authorized to visit N. York for the purpose of purchasing plants for the Corporation at a cost not Exceeding $100.00, and that his travelling Expenses be defrayed by the Corporation. The time of the visit to be at the discretion of the Superintendent.

Voted, - that the general charge and supervision of all matters relating to the Sphynx be left to the same Committee as last year, viz: the President and Dr. Bigelow.

At a Meeting of the Committee on Grounds held at the office of the Corporation, April 10, 1872, it was

Voted, - that the President be appointed a Committee with full powers in reference to the Erection of a board fence on the S. and W. lines of the Watriss Estate.

Voted, - that the Secretary request the Superintendent to furnish the President with a list of the sub=ordinate officers at the Cemetery with a statement of their duties and compensation.

Dissolved.

At a Meeting of the Committee on Grounds held at the office of the Corporation April 29t, 1872, the subjects of discussion, and the appointments made of Committees thereupon were as follows, viz:

II. The Reception House. Messrs. Lawrence and Pickering.

III. The petition of Mr Stephen G. Deblois for granite steps

At a Meeting of the Committee on Lots, held May 18t, 1872, it was

Voted, - that Mr Charles W. Freeland is hereby authorized to Erect a Catacomb tomb above ground upon his Lots Nos 699 and 700 in Mount Auburn Cemetery after the plans submitted to this Committee by his architects Messrs. Ware and Van Brunt; provided that the Superintendent of the Cemetery shall be allowed such supervision of the work as will Enable him to certify, upon its completion, that the construction and drainage, or ventilation, have been satisfactory accomplished.

Dissolved.

October 21st, 1872

At a Meeting of the Committee on Grounds held at the office of Mr Livermore, 23 Sears Building, Boston, October 21st, 1872, Mrs Peter Hubbell's proposed donation

of a Drinking Fountain to the Corporation, (which subject was referred to the consideration of the Committee at the Meeting of the Board held on the 9t inst.,) having been considered, it was

Voted, - that in view of the outlay for laying pipes, setting foundations supplying water, Etc., which the Erection of the proposed Fountain would occasion, the Committee are not prepared, considering the financial condition of the Corporation to recommend the acceptance of Mr Hubbell's proposition at the present time.

Dissolved.

November 25, 1873

At a Meeting of the Committee on Lots held at the office of the corporation on Tuesday, November 25t, 1873, - it was

Voted, - that from and after the 31st of December next, the sum to be paid when Permits are issued, as provided for by amended By=Law, Article XII, adopted by the Board of Trustees October 8, 1873, [Records, V=247,] shall be one dollar, ($1.00) -

A like sum shall also be paid upon Each lot for work done by holders of General Permits, in all cases where otherwise a special permit would have been necessary; returns and payments to be made by them quarterly.
