up my quarters and getting
ready to live in camp for
the winter if I ge to May
but it is very (?)
the position we occupy
is a very confined one and
if the enemy was to come
upon us I suppose there
would be some (?)
done as we are so near
maryland the shanando really
is(?) a butifull country the
land is good but it shows
the print of the soldiers
feet

Friday 19 very cold and
windy our quarters being on
high ground exposes us
to the wind nothing special
to day I am some what
depressed in spirrit because
of the failure of our troops
at Fredereckburgh where is
the blame I cannot know
oh the destruction of human
life my hope is that this
war may soon close
