I call that Real which possesses some characters, whether any particular man or particular collections of men attribute those characters to it or not, either in their sensations or in their judgments: meaning by a 'man' any finite mind with whom we communicate. Thus, the substance of a dream is not Real, but the fact of dreaming it may be so.
