Having a general ideal of good reasoning, we all form notions of what is good reasoning and what is not.
We carry more or less distinctly in our minds patterns of good and bad reasoning, which may be called Norms.
Every man possesses some such body of norms.
It is what is called logica uterus.
Now let us consider how inference takes place.
Then it will sometimes have [?] that haunts minds.
Somehow,we do not know what to make of it.
Suddenly, under the influence of our logical disposition, it occurs to consider it in conjunction with another one.
We take the two together and new proposition flashes upon us, irresistibly.
I am thinking particularly of necessary reasoning which is the kind of reasoning we shall consider first.
