As to the sciences of Garb, it will be enough to suggest their hosts by a little list of common words: Fashion, Tailor, Mantnamaker, Costumer, Haberdasher, Corset-maker, Cutting Paper patterns, Hooks and Eyes, Buttons, Milliner, Hat, Bonnet, Artificial Flowers, Hairdressing, Comb, Brush, Gloves, Hosier, Shoes, Last-making, Shoeblack. To each of these at least one class of persons, in some instances, dozens of classes, devote their lives, and there doubtless are those who devote their lives to the study of how these arts ought to be carried on. Then last are researchers in practical sciences.

As already intimated, the sciences ministrant to the Graphic Instinct are the practical sciences relating to the Fine Arts. But there are certain performances which to earlier ages were fine arts but which the more cultivated part of makind hardly now regards with admiration. Such for example is that music made by the calliope, by the whistle,
