My dear friend:

Your lovely letter received and I will begin by answering your questions. Mr. M. stayed with a colored employee in the house Monday night. They have been there all week. The man makes the fires etc. William and Bella left Monday afternoon, of course. All my things were left, as I left them. [?Rusty] was taken quite unbeknown to, [me?], to Mrs., [Logan's] Sunday afternoon. The canned fruits I sent to Mrs. Bowen. Mr. M. had my trunks and several pieces of furniture sent

The same for Amy and Jack Smith I never hear from them.

Please write me again, Aunt Edith and let me know how you are.

Love, Nephew Charley.

Homaeopathic Medical & Surgical Hospital & Dispensary of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh, Pa. Octo 19th 1898

My Dear Girls:-

You notice I use the plural in spelling Girls and that means that my little remembrance [out] is for all our Pittsburgh girls.

I think of you often and hope you are all well. We are exceedingly busy in the house now. Every private room full and the wards filling rapidly except E ward which has but four patients

There are but few calls for nurses at present there being but little sickness in the City

Miss Halluck] is home. Also Mrs Harrah and Miss Mckee. Miss Lindly comes home for a week or two to nurse a friend of hers who undergoes an operation here at the hospital The other girls are all away yet but I think Miss Rodgers starts home in about

Dear Sister Edith

I hope you will not feel offended at us for writing at so late a date for me and truly ashaimed of our selves for not answering your kind letter earlier or letting you know you we liked the beautiful dishes you sent us.

Well Edith the reason we havent written sooner is this Sadie has been busy cleaning house and doing her sewing so she has been waiting for me to write and I have been waiting for her Besides Father Lowery was very sick in this time and Sadie and I both spent all the time we could with Father but he died on the 18th

of March and the following Saturday was the funeral and he was put in the vault and last Sunday wsa taken out and burried in a nice family lot which Mother bought. it was just like annother funeral when he was burried I couldent go but Sadie was there and just a few of their Friends. So Edith I know you wont feel hard at us fro not writing sooner will you? Edith Sadie thinks the dishes just lovely and apreciates every thing you have sent her and now she is almost through house cleaning and was wishing today that you could see the house while every thing is nice and clean I tell you what she has got things fixed nice and we have got a nice little home and Happy and many times obliged for the dishes

[right page] Jennie is at our house now came out Yesterday on my day off and is going home tomorrow she said Ma is well as usual she said I suppose you know they had a fire over there but it dident amount to very much I guess.

Louise came out this evening to see how we are as they havent seen us for sometime she was saying they were down to the cemetery today to see Fathers grave and put some flowers on it they visit him often Edith I tell you [here?] is a family [to?] I see how a Father is missed it seems as though they cant get over it But is is the same end that we all have got to come to _ _

Edith we had an awful rain here yesterday down town the streets were filled with water and hail so that the sewers wouildent carry it away fast enough and it backed up over the sidewalks and flooded the basements of the stores and buildings so the loss will no doubt be great
